Report: Reds could lose South American stars during key period of the season

The long running debate between club and country is set to rear its ugly head again in the final few weeks of the Premier League season.

The next international window is on March 27-28 and with Brazil is set to meet Argentina in a World Cup qualifier during that week, their federation say they will have no hesitation to call up the likes of Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino.

In normal circumstances, rules usually dictate that a club must release a player if he is called up for duty by his country but FIFA announced in September that, for the rest of that calendar year, clubs would not be obliged to do so, if they are travelling to areas deemed as COVID-19 Red zones which South America currently is.

The governing body are yet to confirm whether those rules still apply, though with cases of Covid-19 rising, Premier League clubs are expecting to be allowed to keep hold of their stars.

If the clubs have no option but to release their players, they would have to quarantine require for at least ten days on their return to England with sportsmen no longer placed on the exempt list.

The Mail reports that If players travel to South America to play, they are not set to return until April 1 at the earliest. This would see them miss two rounds of Premier League action (April 3 and April 10) as well as the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final on April 6-7 and they would also be doubts for the return fixture on April 13-14, having been unable to train outside their hotel room in quarantine.

Liverpool will be joined by Man City in mounting a staunch defence for common sense to prevail as they are also set to lose key players Edison, Fernandinho, Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero.

With Portugal also added recently added onto the Red list, the reigning league champions will also lose Diogo Jota, City will miss Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias and Man United (Bruno Fernandes).

While not in the title race, Wolves will be hoping they would have climbed to mid table safety by that point as they have up to eight players that would be affected in that circumstance.

With a few months to go until those fixtures are set to take place lets hope that an amicable resolution can be found.

Fearful of Liverpool returning to form, the lads at Stockley Park have called FIFA for a bit of assistance with fucking us over later in the season.

They've heard we might not have to field Phillips or Williams at CB so coming in. Taking Fabinho away
