The way Klopp was talking him up pre-game, I was sure The Ox would be on the bench! 

 

For the time being at least, he's clearly seen as a forward.  And given how Klopp talks about the middle 3 'protecting the offense/counterattack' vs penetrating you can sort of see how it might take a while for The Ox to get up to speed in there.
