If you could sign anyone outside of the top four, who would it be?

Rather than any players I'd ideally want to take Southampton's recruitment team and chief scouts, including those focused on snapping up the most promising youngsters, while also snaffling their best youth development people, to replace the likes of Anders Behring Breivik when they move up to work with our senior squad. Given we always buy at least one player for decent money and go immediately cold on him, we shouldn't notice too much difference to the team if the budget is less for one summer.

As that wasn't the point of the question I'd personally go with Schneiderlin, but of course, even that's assuming he'd get a regular game. Fans wanting Brendan to buy a DM is just Louis Tully knocking on Dana Barrett's door and getting it shut in his face while he's still inviting her to his party, so perhaps Michael Vorm would be a better bet.

At least he's the 'profile' of keeper Brendan cited as essential for his 11 against 10 passing prototype, when he remembered what it is he actually wants the team to do. Remove the cat on a hot tin roof element of the back four whenever our keeper has the ball at his feet, and maybe we'd fix one of the defence's key weaknesses without lashing away all the money we desperately need to spend on getting our own goal threat back.

I answered Clyne in the poll, but would go for Benteke. As a lot of people has said, we need goals, and he'd provide a few. I actually think he's a lot better than Kane, even if the latter had a great season last year.

mmmmm. do you work for our transfer committee?
