My laptop is about to give up the ghost.

My laptop needs replacing but I'm on a very tight budget, so I can't afford to replace it with something similar. With a budget not much more than £100, I need a cheap device to enable me to browse the internet. A refurbished device would be acceptable. The trouble is, I  know absolutely nothing about things such as Chrome Books and tablets, so consequently, I don't really know where to start. Can anyone offer any advice please?

I haven't got much advice to give you on what one to get, but I'd have a look at the Argos Ebay store. I've had a refurbished laptop from there in the past and it's been fine and comes with a full 12 month warranty same as a new one. They've got tablets for under £100 on there.

Google nexus for £129.99 looks a good bet.

I've seen a lot of people say they're happy with the nexus in threads like this http://www.liverpoolway.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/103014-asus-nexus-7/?hl=nexus

But I haven't got one myself so can't really comment.

The other tablet should be ok. If you're only using it for browsing then I can't see a problem. With it being Argos if you aren't happy with it they should just take it back no questions asked.

It's good in that it's 64GB and you can store a lot of TV programmes etc... on it, but it's not Android so it's extremely limited. You couldn't download the Tapatalk app for example to browse the forum and you can't watch things like Netflix on it or download Sopcast to watch the footy; all of which you can do on an android device.

It's not bad but I hardly ever use it now and I'll be upgrading it to a Samsung or an iPad soon I think.

The early batch of Nexus 7s were prone to screen-lifting, which resulted in people trying to push the screen back down which in turn resulted in cracked screens. Asus seemed to of rectified this and it only happened to a small percentage of devices anyway.

I've had mine for a year and I haven't had a problem with it, it's still as quick as the day I bought it. It will also be one of the first devices to get Android Kit kat later this month.

You can buy first gen Nexus 7s for £129 in Carphone Warehouse, you won't find anything better for that price.

You could either get a second hand laptop from someone like SCC http://www.scctrade.co.uk/laptops-/, but it won't come with an OS, so there will be a certain amount of frigging about with it, or there are any number of Android 7" tablets which would be fine for watching porn, and other, less important tasks.

The one from Tesco http://www.tesco.com/direct/hudl/ looks pretty decent for £119 , or a Nexus 7, or a Kindle Fire HD would all do the job at around the £100 - £120 mark.

The only advantage with going with the laptop is if you ever need to run something that isn't available for tablets, specifically sopcast or some other variant for watching streams.

I use Sopcast on my Nexus.

I used to use sopcast to watch the footy on my laptop and it was great for a few years then last year it went to shit. I then got it for my android and it was working great again within reason but since I discovered xb player I haven't looked back, Awesome bit of software
