Car hit by an ambulance - what to do?

My Mrs' car was parked outside her mum's house today when an ambulance came to one of the neighbours', scraping the side of the car in the process. She reckons the whole of that side will need a respray, and with her having a rather large excess, claiming through the insurance would not be worth it.

Do the ambulance's insurers stump up for this kind of thing? And who would we contact about it?

Don't know the reg, the ambulance got off straight away. Got a police incident number though.

Surely the police will find the Ambulance as all call outs are logged. Just have to hope they find some of your lasses paintwork on it. If they can't then the incident number is worth nowt unless she has fully comp with her own insurers who would then have to pay.
