You didn't read my comment about the rice? I've also boiled eggs till they've started exploding in the pan. The pan didn't handle it too well either.

I immediately thought of this!

Do you leave the rice unattended and does it boil dry (all the water evaporates)? That's how you burn rice. You probably just need to use a bigger pan of water or add some more boiling water when it gets low.

But the reason,in some cases, they are buying the shite is that it will feed a good sized family for a while and will keep for ages in the freezer and therefore save a bit of money for clothes for school or to pay bills.

Not all of those parents smoke and drink it away although there are still a fair few who do.

Yeah I agree 'bout that. I haven't read the whole thread but a little education for some parents on the effects of feeding their kids that stuff and healthier and cheap alternatives might go a long way - but as I said earlier, if you can cook your own stuff then you can save money but it takes a bit of effort. And of course its easier to keep stuffing your kids with chicken fucking drummers than it is to learn a new skill!

I still think Jamie Oliver is a bell though, just to clarify.

One and a half cups of water per cup of rice, stir the rice well with the water, bring it to the boil and then stir it a second time, turn the heat down to minimum and leave with the lid on for 30 minutes.

Don't take the lid off or stir it again.

After half hour you'll have great fluffy rice.

Cooking tea isnt something i can concentrate on. It's done when we get home about 6pm, within 2 hours i've got to prepare, cook, let them eat it, supposedly read to them get them bathed an in bed. What ever i cook has to be left unattended. That's not to say i feed them shite, they just get to acquire a taste for carbon.

Cereal has only been promoted for breakfast by the companies that manufacture them.

The grain is causing massive amounts of food intolerances in current circumstances.

On a side note, i had a social worker visit last week due to 'concerns over my daughters weight gain', She's put on 20kg in the last 18 months. I politely told her to get to fuck. My daughter is on huge doses (60mg prednisone and has been for most of the last 6 months and intermittently before then) of steroids as a result of optic neurits, every time she comes off or weans down she loses her sight. As i said to this jobs worth, i'd rather her deal with weight issues then have her dealing with being blind, this way she has some balance of normal life. That and as i also said, if i was refusing to have her treated by conventional medicine as the consultants recommend you'd be on my back for neglect for that...

Turns out it was her dad that did the reporting. Told me on my birthday, nice guy that he is. Full of concern for his kids an all that.
