Well, we don't play particularly attractive football for the most part, and the Chelsea game was largely devoid of flair or moments of real inspiration, but that's the way the game is going in general right now, I think. The risk/reward ratio is completely fucked, and there aren't enough talented attacking players around for all the big clubs to play high quality, creative football. Thus we start from a position of defensive solidity and look to capitalise on mistakes, etc.

That said, even with quality players I'm not sure that Rafa is the kind of manager who will ever have us playing great football.

We're not the greatest side to watch but we have played some lovely stuff in a lot of our games. I thought our football in our 4-1 demolition of Arsenal was stunning. But that kind of an approach doesn't work against Chelsea. ManUre, Arse, Barca and all other teams that supposedly play attractive football don't get anything out of Chelsea when they play. To beat Chelsea you have to beat them at their own game, it's as simple as that.

Obviously Valdano doesn't know this since he's never made it as a manager, and he only won the world cup because he was lucky enough to be playing alongside Diego. And that Argentine team was hardly full of flair or fantasy football either, save for Maradona's moments of brilliance.

In short, Valdano can go suck a dick.
