Robertson: We cannot rely on the past

A forthright Andy Robertson says no excuses can be made for their current form as the Reds slumped to a club record fifth straight home defeat in the league.

For the previous couple of seasons, Liverpool seemed to break records on a seemingly weekly basis.

 

The football world was in awe of their perseverance and mentality. You did not have to necessarily like Liverpool, but you sure had respect them for their achievements.

 

Returning to the modern day and we are now seeing a pale imitation of that outstanding outfit.

 

In truth this is not a great surprise with the amount of long-term absentees and countless players coming in and out of the team meaning there is no continuity.

 

However on any given match day there is enough World Class talent and Internationals in the squad who have the quality needed to score goals and win games of Football.

 

Speaking after the match to the BBC(via The Independent), the Left-Back pulled no punches.

 

“These games are won and lost on fine margins and these goals can’t happen. For us to get beaten on the counter attack is not good enough.

 

"Five home games without a win, that is nowhere near good enough. Nothing is going to help the fans at home and it is simply not good enough because games are running out for what we want.

 

 

Robertson indicated that confidence is low within the squad but says it is no good just feeling sorry for themselves as there is a job to do and games are running out.

 

“Too many heads are going down when we go 1-0 down, we can’t do that. Football is about taking knocks.

 

“We can’t rely on the past. Last season is over with, it is done.

 

We have nowhere near been good enough to what a Liverpool team should be. We are dropping further and it is not good enough.

 

“Games are running out and we need to put the pressure on the teams below us.

 

"People will think we are down and out and we need to get the results to show them we are not. At the moment we are not doing that.”

No fans = no oxygen. We're running on shit fumes and with no quality specialist replacements to step in we've suffered heavily due to chronic injuries. This season is down the toilet unless we can actually win the CL but I will reserve judgement on Jurgen until I see us play in front of our supporters again. 5 on the spin at Anfield is not good fucking news is it?

 

While I'm ranting I want to say VAR is also a huge pile of shyte that has utterly ruined many foundational aspects of the game, and there is no doubt in my mind that we have been stiffed quite a few times this season; retribution for our greedy Euro League grab? Who knows but corruption happens all over the world, why the fuck would UK be any different? I still love this team because of what they have given us but I'm sick of the sight of them right now.

Maybe just learn the lessons that are being handed to us every single match. Its astonishing how ignorant or arrogant we are being about our flaws, about this season. Yeah forget last season stop trying to play like we are that team because we aren't for many reasons.

And there you have it. Robbo might not be in the form he was last season, although Sadio giving him the virtual cold shoulder with link up play, hasnt helped. But Robbo can see some of his teammates are packing up their toys during games. And that aint good enough.

There is no excuse for it, give your all every game should be the mantra. I know these players on the whole have played a lot but they had three months off. Back to back league campaigns was always go to be hard, decisions and injuries will upset players but there is no excuse for packing it in.
