PlayStation Vita

Just got one of these cheap(ish). Has anyone hacked one of these? I've gone round in circles online which is full of conflicting or out of date advice. I've actually made the first step and it is now hacked but I've got no idea how to do the rest - i.e. put free stuff on there.

Anyone done one? (I'm guessing not but thought I'd ask).

I did it. A full hack, including:

- the latest non-Sony custom firmware

- the ability to use standard SDHC cards instead of expensive Sony cards (I've got a 64gb card which cost a tenner).

- a programme that can download Vita and PS1 games direct onto the machine, using the machine instead of a desktop computer

- a PSP emulator

- Snes and Megadrive emulators

- Vitashell - a programme that lets you go in and out of all the files and folders on the Vita.

So I'm made up with it - it's a great machine and it's now full of Vita, PSP, PS 1, Snes and Megadrive games, all for free and just a bit of time and research.

I looked into this as I have a Vita but it looks incredibly complex as the one I have has a Bios of a certain number and this number is over the threshold where simply downloading software will work. It's a complicated set of instructions that can easily destroy the loading of the system software. Where did you get the instructions to perform your hack?

Are you on Facebook? There's a group called PSP PS VITA Hacks & Mods - they have guides in the Announcements pinned posts (and helpful members). That should be your first stop - I wish i'd joined this group before i started because it would have saved me a lot of fucking about on the internet.

I'm not sure what you mean by BIOS, but the system software can't be over 3.68 i think (check yours in settings). If it is then you can then change it to 3.60 (http://wololo.net/2016/12/03/henkaku-update-server-easy-way-update-ps-vita-fw-3-60/) which is dead easy. Once it's on 3.60 you can hack it.

I'm on a Mac so used this -

A PC one is here -

I'm going to give this another try. I have started to install 3.65 and then later I will try and install the h-encore software. Thanks for the videos and I have joined the Facebook group too.

Did you ever do this? I've got about 30 games on my Vita, it's a really nice machine. It also emulates the PSP really well (even though i have two PSPs!). Some of the PSP games look great on the bigger screen - i've been playing OutRun Coast to Coast and it looks lovely on the big OLED screen.

Good question, I did get it done but if I recall I tried to get the software to directly download games and it was failing. I think I found websites where games could be downloaded but I never tried them. I would like to know where I can download games like the Outrun Coast To Coast title you refer to?

I did this again, with a Vita i was gifted by a work colleague. It was made slightly more difficult as the Vita was on a higher firmware, but got there in the end. I've now got both models of Vita - the original Fat model which is heavier with a beautiful OLED screen, and the second Slim model with the LCD screen.

I didn't realise you could hack a 3ds and install retroarch onto it as well as the Vita. Got the 3DS XL hacked tonight and going to install Retroarch onto it tomorrow. I'll be looking into if there is an equivalent store on 3DS similar to PKGJ on the Vita.
