Ronnie Moran

Recommended Posts

Tremendously sad when I heard the news earlier today. What a truly wonderful man Ronnie was, the very embodiment and epitome of what every footballer and every man should aspire to be : honest, decent, loyal, courageous, wise, witty, modest and humble to the very end.

Legend. That word is bandied about so liberally these days and seemingly attached to every half decent no mark who's ever kicked a ball. Not so with Ronnie Moran, the man is truly deserving of that title.

I've often thought that one of the things these "modern" Liverpool sides have so sorely lacked has been the grit, tenacity, fire and the bollocks needed to rise above, especially when times are hard. Ronnie Moran had an abundance of all of these, and I would love to see Jamie Carragher return to Liverpool, purposely to assume the role which Ronnie made his own; Sergeant Major, Chief arse kicker, the bad cop to Jurgen's good.

Ronnie Moran, Bootroom Boy, Liverpool Legend.

Rest in Peace Sir.

"Me as a 30 year old, having won European cups, Captain of Liverpool, Captain of Scotland, played in 3 world cups.

I could not offer an opinion as a 30 year old.

Ronnie Moran would have stood over me and would be threatening to chin me, saying to me 'you know nothing about football, what entitles you to have an opinion about football'."
