People buy food anyway' date=' a delivery service comes with extra cost, the incremental value I would have thought was marginal/dubious.

By contrast betting, from your phone,in the heat of the moment is classic mugs money with considerable incremental value, and little cost. That is where this is going.

I wish that FSG could be as inventive about putting their own money in as they are in taking our money off us.[/quote']

There's no way that "betting in play" while fans are sat watching the match, will become the norm.

I think there might be a bit of a push for Half Time betting, but most of all it's an easy way to capture email addresses (for those that are daft enough to register a real one), and push ads and offers at you. They'll probably just get a kickback from The Cloud or something, who'll enjoy access to 5,000 wifi users (just a guess at how many might use it). It might also bring a few fans into the ground earlier? Although with mobile phone data plans the norm these days, the pull of a wifi hotspot is probably not what it was.... except for those that might turn up an hour early and torrent a movie or two via their phone! ;-)

Dropped through the letter box just now. Must be renewed by 28 May.

Twats!

My girl gave hers out for a few years. Trouble doing that is that you budget for it when you have it. When it’s gone you don’t and it becomes so hard to justify the outlay afterwards. It’s effectively gone then.

I bet they'd have a St. Pauli style sausage train as well if someone asked.

hot-dog-train.jpg

Fuck it, why stop at trains? Drone technology is really coming on. We could have tiny stealth bombers, buzzing around the stadium, firing pies at people with pinpoint accuracy. Just order in an "air strike" on your position (i.e. seat number) via your smartphone, and bobs your uncle.

And of course little blackhawk helicopter drones just in case one of the tiny stealth bombers crashes in the away end.

Its the future.

What makes you say that?

Betting from mobile phones at racecourses has exploded in the past few years, as has Sky bet "in play" betting as games progress.

I predict that Paddy Power are sponsoring this with more than philanthropy in mind.

There's a difference. You specifically go to a racecourse to bet on horses.

Already we have concourse betting booths at football grounds and in the hospitality areas betting sheets are provided and bets collected where you sit.

Several clubs are, or have been, sponsored, by betting companies.

Betting at football is here already, and is seen as a growth area, and the figures bear that out.

Time will tell how far you can push this. But the overheads of in play betting, once the infrastructure is set up, are minimal, the rewards high.

I'd settle for adequate legroom tbh. If I ever go the match these days my shins look like they've been accosted by baton-wielding leprechauns.

I take it you sit I the lower centenary like me? Comical size seats, I've got no idea why they would ever think they would be capable of seating anything more then a small child, cunts.

I can see both sides... it's clear that betting is massively pushed by the media these days (TalkSport an obvious example), so easier and more flexible ways to bet will continue, and wifi / phone access is a great way to do that (if you're into that stuff).

But I agree with Magic Sponge too, and think that 'in play' betting won't be the norm. Not from fans at the game. Some might, of course, but I think the majority will settle for half time betting.

All of that said, I think the current fan culture would frown upon other fans fiddling with their phones during the game. It's bad enough taking photos... BUT, things can and do change, and if somehow 'in play' betting becomes exciting, and creeps into fan behaviour, then anything is possible I suppose.

It's like now... it's frowned upon to be pouring out your flask IN the game... perfectly fine at half time! Same with betting I think. Could also be a bit of a betting backlash at some point too, once politicians or key sports bodies decide to venture into morality and deem it 'not the culture we want to promote' etc.

I'm smirking as I type this.... thinking of the alarming increase in porn downloads from LFC's wifi on matchday! whilst Ian Ayre's harping on about 'offering a range of multimedia experiences on matchday'.

Just out of curiosity....

What happens at LFC if you're a season ticket holder, and decide not to renew one year? (either cos you object, or you may just find yourself out of work, or struggling to afford it). Do you go right to the back of the queue thereafter, or are you still considered 'valued' and given a higher priority on the waiting list?

It must be tragic if you're a STH for many years, lose your job / divorce etc, and can't afford it one year... then you're knackered forever?

On” in play betting”, although any prediction for the future is just that, there can be little doubt that that is where existing and anticipated trends are indicating a growth area.

I agree that in play betting during the game is unlikely to be the norm, but it does not have to be to be very profitable. If 10% of a 45,000 crowd bet £5, that is a £22,500 stake, over 25 home games that is £565,000. The bookies take is disproportionately high because fans always bet with their hearts, not with their heads.

Your claim that “I think the current fan culture would frown upon other fans fiddling with their phones during the game” is at odds with my experience. Already photo taking, video clip taking, texting and taking and making calls about the game and personal matters is commonplace.

If you fail to renew, you lose the seassie ticket for good. If you want a new one, get on the end of the waiting list (if its open for new names, that is).

Its why people hand them down through families or lay them off to friends so they can claim them back when \ if they can afford it.

I dont know of anyone who has loans a seassie out then not got it back after a season or two. Must be the chance someone could change the details with the club?

Shame that, it would be fairer if you slowly dropped down the rankings to renew, so if you were unlucky enough to NEED a year out, you could maybe get back on the ladder a bit quicker. That make sense? Something feels wrong about a guy watching for 20 years, gets made redundant and needs a year out, and loses his chance.

Interesting workaround though... 'loaning it' to a mate or family. Makes sense.

£80 increase with that fucking pole a few rows down from me in the Main Stand still obscuring my view.

Ah well, at least I'll be able to bitch on Facebook about it. Should get me some 'likes', that one.

Ah the Poles, they get fucking everywhere, its a challenge just to order a KFC nowadays.

Fucking hell how outdated are you with the modern world?

Betting in play is a big thing now

I've not (knowingly) seen it happen at any match I've been to. Fans sat at home, absolutely, but match going / betting fans I know usually place their bets just prior to the match.

I've seen the odd young lad texting, but it's rare, and they've looked about 16, so more likely to be facebook than betfred.

Could be where I sit of course. If I was in with the hardcore fans I might see more of it going on, or it might be more common with Liverpool fans than City? I don't know.

I think that's what Magic Sponge was trying to say... sat in a seat at the match, it's unlikely to be the 'norm' (as in the majority of fans doing it). Depends what you call 'norm' and depends on where you're sitting / types of fan etc.

Are you saying it's pretty common with the Liverpool fans you're aware of?

It's a bit off topic, but interesting.

I know it's a big thing, dick cheese. My point was that it doesn't rarely happen during a match, from supporters who are sat watching the game.

Open your eyes next time.

Buy the cyprus hill album and play "insane in the membrane" over and over

Realisation is the first step
