If we look at these numbers again, but now halfway through the season we can see that we are on our way to a finish around 68 points +.

 

Only one season the last seven seasons have we finished the second half of the season with less points than the first, Rafa's first season where we basically threw a few games at the end in our preperations for the CL final.

 

The last four seasons we have improved in the second half and if we do the same this year we should at least get 70 points even if we are as wasteful as we have been in the first half this year.

 

Personally I think we should be able to get at least 6 points more in the second half of the season and that will give us 74 points, this again will certainly secure 4th.

 

Its certanly not off.

Apart from the Spurs match, I think we should have picked up 3 points in every other games we have played this season after the way we performed.

 

Luck and missed chances have cost us challenging for the title - but the biigest miss has been Gerrard. Had Gerrard been fit, we'd probably be right up there with City and United.

It's worth pausing and reflecting on the season before tonight.

 

If we win then we could still have a shot at the title, and be on 37 points. Which is really sobering considering the points we've shoddily dropped at home, had we won just two of them drawn games then we'd be looking at being on 41 points tonight if we win.

 

I expect, should we lose, I won't have the same calm about it all, but tonight , on the eve of the game, it's good.
