What do you make of Maxi after seeing him in a reds shirt for 2 months?

Beckham wasn't fast.

No he was not and the only way I have seen Beckham beat a man was when going backwards.

Beckham had an extremly gifted right foot though and he was faster than Maxi.

Edit - What Ted said above as well.

Good player, good signing, fits in well with the rest of the team. Excellent eye for the pass, and he can also execute the pass intended. He works hard, can shoot well, and can play any of the positions behind the strikers, be it 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1.

He looks ok. He is probably still settling in. The last few times he has played he looked like he had an eye for a pass and his movement wasn't bad.

His best days are behind him I'd say but he'll do a job and hopefully link up well with Torres in.

It's clear from the few games that he has played that having a player who can control a ball and make a well timed and executed pass in the final third of the pitch, tends to help your attacking efforts.

Pace ain't everything.

Sadly for a wide attacking player its almost everything unless you have some specific sublime skills such as either technique or a brilliant either left or right foot.

Riera is a good example that even if you have a superb technique you are not sure to make it without pace to take advantage of it.

Riera is a good example of someone who doesn't give a fuck. He doesn't need pace to be a useful player. He needs to stay on his feet and stop moaning.

Having pace and no brain to use it isn't useful either. Riera isn't a good example because he lacks pace but because is attitude is shite.

I'd rather have a full season from a on-form Riera type player than a full season from a on-form Babel type player, put it that way.

Rafa doesn't like speedy wingers much, they tend to get benched as 9 times out of ten give the ball away. Like Dirk. Besides we don't have room to utilise them, Babel cuts inside and doesn't know how to cross with either foot and Maxi can do with both.

Class and brains beats pace everythyme, shit even Usain Bolt could play on the right if pace is the new substitute for ability. Knock it past and run after it doesn't work when the team in pinned back with crushed sardines on a packt tin all waiting to win the ball which will happen as soon as they pass to the stupid wingers who will cross it. Crosses are crap anyway.

Gerrard is quicker than all of em and hardly needs to use it cos he's got better qualities.

Seen a lot of him and i rate him, but hes not at his best yet. He is fantastic on his day and i think we will see much more from him.

Good to finally have some competiton for Dirk and i think it will keep him honest. All in all a very good option to have.
