I don't think many actually criticise him per se , I just think that some forumites ( myself included ) don't think he is quite as fantastic on the pitch as others on here do.

The fact that it is impossible not to love Xabi the person leads to a sense of guilt in mentioning the above opinion hence the rider in most cases.

BTW , did anybody notice Xabi's chin beating Skrtel's head in a catchweight contest.

Pretty much nailed exactly how I feel about Xabi, the bit in bold in particular, when you look at Ballack and K.D Lang last night I thought great players but no way would I want them at Anfield, the same with Ronaldo.

If you look at how important Carrick is to the Mancs, you can also see how Ferguson also realises there are certain matches that he is not suited to, think about Molby, sometimes Kenny went with McMahon and Whelan others with Molby and McMahon. Horses for courses, Barry should only be brought in for Lucas.

Alonso was immense last night, certainly in the first half. His partnership with Mascherano is truley superb and it was a shame Gerrard wasn't ahead of them adding more class, feeding Torres.

Alonso is everything we want to see in a foreign player. He's got class on and off the field.

Did anyone notice how he was also playing very high up the field at times.

Maybe he feels he can do this more, or Rafa feels he needs to do this more when Gerrard isn't on the field. As they are the most likely two players who can spot a pass and complete it.
