Really like Dominic Shepherd, first seen his stuff when he was a student and this was his piece he had on display at the Walker Art Gallery back in 2005. It's really impressive when you see it in real life when it's much larger. Thinking about buying one of his originals.

I was lucky enough to go to the Prado in Madrid last year. Copped a load of Velasquez's paintings - beautiful they were. It's astonishing the 'is-ness' he captures in his subjects, classical yet utterly modern at the same time. Bought a tear to my eye it was that lovely.

 

Anyway, I googled 'Velasquez' and got these beauties:

Didn't see this one in the gallery. Which is a shame; such technique, such realism, such je né c'est quois. I'm sure Tony Hart and Mr Bennett would approve:
