Band of Brothers II The Pacific

"The Pacific" (2009) (mini)

A hell of a lot of the same people inviolved in the making of the original are all in on this ,especially Spielberg/Hanks.Due out next year ,10 part series.

After their Sterling work on Private Ryan and Band Of Brothers , I'm hoping for (and expecting) this to be as good if not better than the First one

Based on these Marines and their Books

I can't wait for it, the pacific theatre had some awesome battles.

If they show Midway that'll just make me come.

Midway would be the dogs gonads. So many in the Pacific though

Pearl Harbour ,Okinawa,Iwo Jima,Phillipines ,Burma,Gudalcanal ,Java Sea,Kimikazes etc .

Supposed to be the most Expensive TV series ever made .Slightly different format to the 1st series following Easy Company. This will be about 3 men that go to war and fight in the same battles .

African Campaign and Russia surely next on the list

The actions of one of the main characters are described below, don't look if you don't like spoilers!

Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone, United States Marine Corps, (November 4, 1916–February 19, 1945), received the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Guadalcanal during World War II. He held off 3,000 Japanese troops at Guadalcanal, after his 15-member unit was reduced to three men.[1] Basilone was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of Iwo Jima, after which he was posthumously honored with the Navy Cross. He is the only enlisted Marine in World War II to have received the Medal of Honor, the Navy Cross, and a Purple Heart. Basilone is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Russia surely next on the list

I wish it were but I can't see it happening. The series are about America's involvement in the war.

But yes, a series depicting a Guards Unit on the Eastern Front would be fantastic. As would a series about a German Army unit from Poland to France to Russia and to France again.

Ace news indeed!

Wish they would make a series like this about the eastern front as well. That`s where it really happened and more desicive than even D day.

But, off course, that beeing about mainly Russians and Germans, may not appeal as much to the money men behind this.

Have the box set and watched it many times. A truely great piece of TV.

Thanks Gav, this is great news. Dont suppose any of the original characters will appear again? Didnt they end the last one about to be shipped off to the Pacific?

Nah there's no original characters in this one mate, the war ends during the last ep of Band of Brothers too.

Agreed they won't make something like that which is a shame, the whole dynamic of a show set with the Russians would be completely alien to anything we've seen before.

Their units were comprised of a front wave of criminal cannon fodder, a second wave of regular troops and a rear wave of 'Asian Hordes' as the Nazis described them who basically went raping and pillaging.

The Russians also weren't beyond shelling their own positions if they had a chance of killing some Germans too, and often had senior commanders racing to capture a target with the loser being sent for 'political re-education'

No bonds of brotherhood with this lot, more like a gun to the back of the head - but fascinating none the less.

Also gotta take your hats off to the Germans, the Yanks were fighting knowing they were winning, imagine being a German at Bastogne knowing your country was as good as fucked?

hang on a minute, just read everyones comments, am i right in saying this isn't related to band of brothers and is basically a completely different series with different cast and writers/directors?

same writers, directors, producers ,camera crews etc etc but it obviously (if you watched the original BoB) has to be different cast considering the last series ended with the end of the war .Most importantly though ,its a repeat of the BoB & Private Ryan duo of Speilberg and Hanks which ensures it'll be of a similar standard.Hansk is a actor with a face and Voice you want to hit repeatedly with heavy hammers but as a director he's really showing some style.Speilberg is a WWII fanatic

Any links to some details on this Gav, as one of you has got this wrong...

Just look at the credits that are available for Both (though pacific is a work in progress so will get additions) - Mckenna is one of the main scriptwriter as he was last time , Hanks and Speilberg are the executive producers ,same co execs etc .

Cast is obviously different ,and its based on different books but reportedly its following the same style ,again taken from the links above.Only 2 directors known so far though with Franklin & Van Patten
