Man, our players are just so inconsistent at the basics. Poor passes, poor shots, poor headers, poor trapping of the friggin ball! How many times have we just given it away with simple misplaced passes already?

 

Until we sort that shit out, it's barely worth bothering with the fact that (a) Lucas and Poulsen should never play together at the same time (b) Meirelles is not a winger and should be playing midfield © we have absolutely no width as a team (d) Roy seems to have decided our youth players aren't going to get another look in

Cole influences the game much more from the left. He's given more time and space and that's when he's dangerous as he drifts in.

 

Meireles though I'd rather see where Kuyt seems to be.

Of our back 4 only Johnson is a natural fullback. Our mid 4 has Meireles, Lucas and Poulsen, all central midfielders. And cole on the left, where he cuts in from.

We arn't playing 4-4-2. Kelly is versatile and will need to be to stay in the squad. Lucas and Poulsen are playing more of a holding role with Lucas joining the attack and Meireles and Cole whether wide or not are carrying a creative threat.

 

This isn't fifa, you don't just see the players and assume that's where they will stay! The problem is the pathetic movement of Kuyt and Torres and the fact Lucas couldn't trap a bag of cement.

Meireles is a CM, why is he being played on the wing, fairly simple stuff.

 

And the problem is not with Kelly himself, he's a fantastic defender just he won't overlap Cole, and Cole cuts inside all the time, which means no width.

Meireles is a defensive midtfielder - would be nice to use him there instead of Poulsen and Lucas....

Stick Kuyt on the right, Cole on the left, or vice versa. For god's sake leave Meireles in the middle. Or put Ince on the wing, anything, ANYTHING to get some width.

 

I think it's ridiculous you are dragging Rafa into this, but it seems to be the norm nowadays.
