RAFA: WE'VE FOUND STEVIE'S BEST POSITION

Rafael Benitez is confident Liverpool have finally found Steven Gerrard's best position.

The Reds boss has been impressed by the skipper's performances of late and feels the partnership he has formed playing just behind Fernando Torres is crucial to the team's hopes of success.

"Gerrard will stay in that position for us," he said.

"He is so good that he can play in different positions and if we need to change him for one specific game we can do that.

"But the team has balance with Gerrard and Torres in those positions and two midfield players behind.

"We are playing well, creating chances and scoring goals, so we don't need to change too much.

"When you have good players with quality and intelligence they can play together.

"Gerrard is very quick at passing the ball and Torres is very quick running into space.

"For the team it is the best combination and we always have to think about the team."

He been brilliant that role this season scoring 21 goals so far. At the weekend the interplay between him and torres was mouthwatering in that move where Gerrard played a first time through pass to Torres who went for the far left hand corner but hit the post. If Gerrard continues his form and torres starts banging them again like the back end of last season then we may just win the european cup, Premier league or both.

I think we can forget about signing a star striker like Eto or David Villa as Gerrard is going to remain in that support striker/attacking midfield role behind Torres. I wonder whether this means that Barry or a attacking wide player will be coming in this summer because we are clearly not going to be disturbing the partnership again like last summer with the keane saga.

But if either of them get injured for a long period we are screwed. Why not forget about signing a winger and play a decent forward up with Torres, Gerrard behind the two of them and 3 central midfielders of Barry/Mascherano/Alonso.

Spend the rest of the cash on two decent full-backs who can go forward, unless Dossena proves to be the version at left-back.

Aye yeah, because Aurelio and Insua are shite, we really do need a new left back.

Aurelio hasn't really got the pace to get up and down the line but I guess insua could do the job in that system. We'd definitley need a very attacking rightback though.

Or that Gerrard is our best RM.

Which he is, and maybe it is his best position I don't know. But he is still class there, and it was fucking stupid that the manager moved him from that position which is part of the reason we've played so fucking badly for most of the season.

If it is his best postiion does beg the question why we spunked 20m on Robbie Keane when we could have bought a world class winger instead of Keane ane Riera.

That is not a dig at Riera who was superb at the start of the season but is just not consistent enough
