Bob Paisley

Criminally underrated in the whole scheme of Liverpool and English football's history. Strangely enough he'd probably want that.

Shanks and Kenny rightly are lauded to high heaven for the things they've done for our football club, but Paisley as a pure football manager and person is unmatched for me.

Tactically better than anyone out there today coupled with an astute understanding of psychology and such an incredible will to win, and win, and win again.

R.I.P Sir Bob.

In the build up to the recent Man U/Barca game it was well documented that Ferguson was trying to equal Bob's record.

Bob won 3 European Cups in 5 seasons,

Ferguson has won 2 in 17 attempts,

what else flies under the radar is that Bob won 3 consecutive European trophies

76 Uefa Cup

77 CL

78 CL,

Ferguson can't hold a candle to Bob's record in Europe.

If any of today's PL managers want to know how to act with dignity and class while being extremely successful and winning a load of trophies just look no further than Bob Paisley. When you look at the antics of Slur over the years despite his achievements,it's clear that he could have learned a thing or two from Bob.

Loved the interview from the 80's when he said many people have made more money from football than me, but nobody has enjoyed it more than me. The mark of a great man, not just a football manager. Compare to Fergie's attitude for the difference between a man and an arsehole.

Yes. Spoilt for choice are we, with Shanks and Kenny (via a beautiful cameo from Joe Fagan) either side of him.

But Bob's reign being in the middle of all these greats is no co-incidence to my mind. He was the kernel of this club's greatness.

He collected the torch of success from Shanks and turned it into volcano. But uniquely, a gentle and dignified volcano, at once ruthless and quietly classy.

No one has given me more pleasure in following Liverpool, or set a more gentlemanly example of going about things, than Bob.

I still look back on his tenure, my childhood, as the best years of my life so far.
