Rest in Peace Ronnie. Probably the best live vocalist I've ever seen. Black Sabbath and Dio, Liverpool Empire in the early eighties.

How the fuck are you in red with such obvious good taste and intelligence? Repped my good man.

Good Singer. He was never Black Sabbath to me though.

RIP

Maybe not but he was an amazing vocalist and his work with Rainbow , Dio and Heaven and hell is up there with the great metal/rock vocal performances.

Personally i rate his Sabbath/heaven and hell albums as the equal of any Ozzy era stuff.

Fantastic singer. One of the best heavy rock singers and unlike Plant, Coverdale, Gillan, Halford and a couple of others I could name, Dio's voice was still virtually as good as it was in the 70s and 80s. Just watch the Heaven and Hell live DVD from a couple of years ago or the Rockpalast gig from last year. I saw Dio with Sabbath 3 times (the first time on the Heaven and Hell tour at Deeside Leisure Centre) and they were immense each time.

In 2000 Deep Purple performed their Concerto for Group and Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall for 2 nights. I went to the second night. I'd heard there would be some special guests but had not heard who had guested on the first night.

I got to the venue in the afternoon and hung round. A big people carrier with darkened windows pulls up right next to me and the doors open. Out steps Ronnie and I exclaim in a loud voice "Fuckin' Hell! It's Ronnie James Dio! Are you singing tonight?" "Yes" replies Ronnie, "Just like last night"

I felt like a right idiot but Ronnie was really nice. He gave me his autograph and I had my photo taken with him. It looks like I am standing on a box. He was tiny!
