Good question. Should be interesting to hear what the Football clubs have to say about it. My guess is that the product was purchased when the vat rate was at 17.5%, so no refund will be due. However, the above point still stands in terms of 'when' the goods/service are provided.

The VAT will have been paid to the government by the club ages ago. If I buy a ticket today to go to a concert in January I will have to pay the 17.5%. If I buy it on Monday I will have to pay 15% VAT.

 

The reduction by the club is actually 21p, not 5p.

When does the VAT become payable from LFC's point of view then? They got the money in the summer, including the VAT, so I'd have thought that would have been paid out by now.

 

I would guess they probably do it that way. My understanding is they can opt to adjust the VAT and effectively issue a VAT only credit note but I don't think there's any obligation on them to do so.
