Last years fall was such that it just cannot be repaired in 1 or 2 transfer windows. They need a complete overhaul which, as we know all too well, is not as easy as just going out and buying 5 to 6 players and trying to put them into the first 11, no matter if you are LVG or David Moyes. It's this aspect that I like about this appointment as I really cannot see LVG having the appetite to stay there beyond 3 seasons. At that point they appoint a new manager who needs to put his stamp on the squad and thus the cycle begins again.

Best case scenario for us:

A big, expensive mistake is made. Van Gaal comes in. Spends 150M. It doesn't gel quickly. Factions form. Giggs is marginalized in his no.2 role, as really it's a Dutch thing. Giggs whines to Ferguson. Power struggle between Van Gaal and Ferguson ensues. Team splutters along. Improves over Moyes (hard not to) but still doesn't quite make the top four. Utd board have another clear out next summer. Van Gaal leaves. Takes back room team with him. They need another rebuild, only they spent their money this summer, and a second season outside CL undermines investor confidence. Debt goes up. Revenue goes down. And they are still not at the top table.

Worst case scenario for us:

Van Gaal comes in. Stamps his authority on the team and squad. The players already there respond and start to play with freedom, like they did for Ferguson - only for a more astute coach this time. Van Gaal spends money wisely. Top four becomes a formality, only they do better than that and challenge strongly for the title, aided by fewer games this season. Giggs does well and learns a lot from Van Gaal, who quite fancies himself as a professor with a project. They work together for three years and Giggs takes over a well oiled machine, modernized from top to bottom, and a new dynasty begins.

As a Liverpool fan I have a clear preference as to how this turns out! It could be either of the above, or anything in between. It will be fascinating to see it unfold.

Hahahahahahahahaha!!

Jesus! This season has potential to be better than last. Most Mancs are 100% convinced that he will turn it around straight away and have used being out of Europe as the only excuse for our resurgence this year.

They think they are winning it again next year. Van Gaal gets it wrong and their fans will finally have to look down the barrel of the gun and realise that life aint never gonna be quite the same now old shit stain has gone.
