Dirk Wants to Stay

Recommended Posts

Goals in league and Europe against Arsenal & Chelsea. THAT goal against City. 4 against Everton. Goals in Europe against both Milan sides. Vital goals elsewhere in Europe. Superb strike at West Ham. Putting us into the seventh European Cup final in our history.

Have I jogged your memory, or should I go on?

'What I'm really saying is': Kuyt is a superbly battling player who was at the fulcrum of so many of the come-backs and last ditch wins in 08/09. Had we won the title that season, or the European Cup in 2007, he'd have been key to it. Mentally he's infallible, and like a Craig Johnston he will never stop going. The same cannot be said of some, apparently, more gifted players, and that has always been the way in football. His weaknesses are apparent, and made more so amongst the one paced dross he lined up aside much of last season.

To be fair you raise some good points, and I'll make this my last post in this thread as it should be primarily for people whom are happy that he's staying, and not for people like me.

If my auntie had bollocks in 07 or 09 she'd be my uncle. We didn't win either of those, and Dirk was appalling in Athens (my opinion) when played in his preferred position. Craig Johnston was a worker but he also had some quality too.

Just wondering why is Dirk held back of some of the one paced dross from last season and not part of it?

Anyway, like I've before, it's all about opinions. I just like more from my footballers than heart and engine. I want quality and class. Dirk is a class guy, but far from a class footballer.

Makes you wonder why Gerrard/Torres can't come out and say something similar.

Sneijder (sp?) came out yesterday saying he doesn't want to leave Inter. Why can't our "big boys" do the same?

Because Gerrard wants to be wooed but nobody is wooing him. He's not good enough for Real Madrid and nobody else wants to pay his kind of wages or pamper him the way he gets pampered at LFC. But he's still hoping.

Torres has a perfectly good reason to leave. He was persuaded to come to LFC by Rafa. His form and his reputation blossomed under Rafa. He renewed his contract last year on the basis of strong assurances from LFC that Rafa was at the centre of its long-term plans. Unlike the Gerrard situation, there are several teams willing to buy him and meet and exceed his current salary and they are more likely to be about to have multiple years challenging for top honours than LFC since Rafa left.

Guest the boy

Silk alone will only carry a side so far. Kuyt has been infuriating, he was atrocious for swathes of last season, but when he leaves the club and on in ten or twenty years time, I'll remember Dirk Kuyt for that goal against City, for the Emirates when Arsenal were dangerous for a second, putting us through into a European Cup final, as the bane of Everton.

As for your final wondering: Kuyt is compatible with free flowing forward-thinking football. The second half of 08/09 demonstrated that. The Dutch have been none too shabby. But he does not have the talent to drag the side on to that platform by himself, as a Torres or Gerrard may. He is not a 30 or 50 million pound individual and so should not be talked of within the same bracket as them. He serves as a piece of the engine that allows others to achieve harmony. Take his tireless running away and the Torres / Gerrard partnership would not have been half as effective. Inevitably his purpose is dimmed when rather than creating space for those players, it's Dossena or Voronin that flank him.

Kuyt is no less talented a player than Johnston. At this club he's scored headers, scrambles and 25 yard drives. His big-game record speaks for itself. At 30 we'd recoup easily what we paid for him years ago. Like Mascherano, for what he does, I'd venture to say there's few players better in the game. But both are specialist players and suffered in much of the circumstances last season.

That is very fair and really should be the last word on the Kuyt debate.

Thank God for that.

Now I only need Lucas and the Greek to come out and pledge their future to the club to scare of possible suitors and my summer will be complete.

I'm working on Lucas's press statement confirming it as we speak. The Kyrgan is going to come and tell you in person.

Bit of a stupid response since watching one match you would see 22.

I am not going to go into my exp with football as this is a forum and I just get the old yeah yeah bla bla responses from internet tough guys or I know every thing muppets.

Lets just say I am not impressed with his first touch and short range passing so far I hope he can improve because I really like the effort he puts in.

On side note he seems to be playing alot better in world cup maybe he just needed a confidence boost and now his team got to final this might be just what he needs.

Fair Play Dirk thats Agger Pepe and Dirk all commiting during the world cup while the player who wanted his daughter to be a scouser and would never sign for another English club when he signed a new contract and payrise a year ago is now flirting with Chelsea a team we finished ahead of 14 months ago and have spent more in the Transfer market since, but he's not happy and wants a meeting with the manager over whats been spent. How many Players did Chelsea have at the world cup? How many Chelsea players are involved in the world cup final? I'm fuckin sick of some players thinking there God himself.

I'm torn over Sunday have €50 on Spain from the start but I'd love to see Dirk win it.

EXCLUSIVE: Dirk Kuyt & Mark Van Bommel Have Been The Best Players For Netherlands - Johnny Rep - International Football - Yahoo! Sports

Netherlands lock horns with Spain in the final of the 2010 World Cup and former Dutch international Johnny Rep is hopeful that Oranje will come out winners on Sunday. Rep wore the Holland jersey in the World Cup finals in 1974 and 1978 and is Netherlands' all-time World Cup goalscorer at the moment.

"Netherlands have yet to play good football, but they did win all their matches so far. It's simply incredible that they've made it to the final," said Rep to Goal.com's Jesse Wieten.

"Playing in a World Cup final is an amazing experience, it really is something very special. However, I do remember that I wasn't extremely tense. That would have been a bad thing.

"You never forget that you had the chance to win the World Cup. We had the chance to win the tournament in both finals, but we didn't grab our chances. It's still a shame."

Rep also took the time to look forward to the upcoming final and expressed his hopes that Oranje will lift the trophy on Sunday.

"I hope that Robin van Persie will hit top form in the final, that could be vital for Oranje. Sneijder is getting better by the match, but Dirk Kuyt and Mark van Bommel have been the standout performers for Holland at this World Cup.

"I hope that Wesley Sneijder grabs my record as all-time World Cup goalscorer on Sunday. That would probably mean that Oranje win the final and become champions."

Anybody questioning Dirk's value as a footballer would do well do juxtapose the assist he got earlier in the tournament (had a clear shot at goal albeit from an angle and elected to play in (I think) Sneijder instead) with Pedro's decision not to pass to Torres the other night. One was purely unselfish and led to the greater glory of the team and the other - albeit the product of a player with far more skill - could have led to the headlines writing themselves if Germany had mustered a late draw.

Kuyt doesn't have the best touch or pace but his mentality is invaluable. I'd go as far as to say that if Kuyt wasn't playing the Netherlands wouldn't be in the final. The kind of ethic a player like Kuyt brings to a team is extremely important and to dissociate it from his 'ability' does him a disservice as a player.

Pleased he's staying. A very admirable character in todays game.

Another shit faced twat turning something into another dig at gerrard and torres.

What you should be asking is why suddenly has kuyt changed his tune. I'll tell you why, because his bessie mate benitez wont match the wages he gets at Anfield.

many papers seemed to think he would follow Rafa, glad he has come out and said he wants to stay wears his heart on his sleave and does a hell of alot for local charities might not be the best striker in the world but every team needs players who run/battle none stop well done dirk(this has tipped me slightly towards Holland on sunday-although im a bit fickle if Nando pledged his future to us i'd favour spain again)
