QUALITY IN RESERVE

Why does Rafa insist on undermining the excellent work of his ever-reliable Centre Backs by selecting Josemi and Traore at Right and left Fullback? Both do not have the quality to play well consistently and in my mind are simply not good enough for Liverpool if we are ever to challenge for top honours consistently. Having recently watched the Reserve team on a couple of occasions we should take heart in the fact that Rafa is investing heavily in this area, and also the fact that excellent talent is already there. Raven at Right Back is solid and comfortable (and crucially not behind play) as is Whitbread at Left back (yes - left back, I was surprised too). Whitbread is good on the ball and little gets past him. Hopefully Paco Herrera can pass the good news onto Rafa. Then let’s not forget Warnock.

I understand Reserve football is a completely different game to the first team, but some very good players get into opposition teams and these present really tough tests for our lads.

I understand that Finnan’s injury meant that Josemi had to play yesterday, but I don’t think he’s better than Raven.

Djimi may well do better at Centre back, but that does not mean that he is going to be able to play well at left back.

I just think we need to do better in these areas of the team.
