What's the best single thing to put on buttered toast?

I just had Co-op Brussels pate on generously buttered toast. I’ve had better pate but it was still pretty enjoyable.

My vote went to honey, but peanut butter, nutella, scrambled eggs, jam/preserves, just about ANY of the choices are much better than beans.

I don't eat eggs or dairy anymore but scrambled eggs on toast is ace. Cheese and hummus on toast is a surprisingly great combo.

A poached egg with a few cracks of coarse black pepper and some sea salt is all you really need. The toast can then mop up the runny yolks. cup of tea on the side.

Your point is bollocks, but I am aggrieved that pate wasn’t an option. That would have given beans a run for its money in my head.

Back in 1968, we (the family) stayed in a lot of traditional ‘bed n breakfast’ Irish guest houses as we holiday’d around the Island. On many occasions at breakfast, the toast came out in racks pre-buttered, already cold. Yes. Cold, and with the butter well gone. Consigned to history, leaving only soft chewy toast with the memory of butter. However, butter was placed on the table, so always added fresh butter to the toast.

 

I don’t do it all the time, but I do it and thoroughly enjoy it. Guess its just stayed with me.

Absolutely nothing wrong with cold buttered toast. Ideally the toast cools before the butter is applied
