Klopp is still hoping to plunder his Germany connections by persuading... Mahmoud Dahoud to join from Borussia Monchengladbach. Dahoud is Liverpool’s first choice to boost their midfield, ahead of Poland international Piotr Zielinski.

Looks like there's been a change of heart there...

4.7m seems like a bit of a bargain if he's as good as people are saying. I've seen matches he played in but I rarely notice keepers to be honest.

Neil Jones reporting the Dahoud interest in the echo as well. I like that, even though it remains to be seen whether he'll be let go of in the first place given Gladbach has just sold Xhaka.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to add further to his squad in the coming weeks. Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze is a target, as is Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud.

Leicester full back Ben Chilwell is also on the club's radar.

I'm happy to see it.

I haven't ever seen Zielinski play, and like I said a few days ago if there's one manager in world football who has the right to take a punt on an unheralded Pole then it's definitely Klopp, but I just don't see why we'd pursue another young attacking midfielder who can play wide.  It's the one position we're absolutely stocked in, especially if Gotze comes.

So maybe Klopp sees something in Zielinski that he thinks he can mould him into a better CM than what we have already in Henderson and Milner, and if so then I'm all for it.  But Dahoud is already that player, you watch Monchengladbach and their midfield just immediately stands out.  Part of that is how good Xhaka is, but another part of it is Dahoud, he catches the eye immediately.

If we can't have Weigl, who would be my personal favourite of all the young Bundesliga midfielders we could go after, then Dahoud is a great fallback.  Going to be a top player, has a great first touch and though he doesn't do anything spectacular the team always seems to be better off after he's had it than they were before.  Kind of like Allen at his best in that way, or maybe Alonso, which is pretty high praise for a 20-year old.  I could see him fitting in very well alongside Can.

Karius and Matip straight in the team already gives us a lift.

Height, attacking set pieces at (both ends with Matip) and both are meant to be quite vocal.

Leaders if you will.

General Klopp adding some steel to the lightweight shirkers he inherited I hope

Would Dahoud be our version of Gundogan then? I was sure we'd go for a big unit to sure up the middle but it seems Grujic and Can will do that job. I think like Rodgers Klopp values intelligent midfielders over physically imposing ones but unlike Rodgers Klopp knows how to use them properly.

Apparently Xhaka has a release clause that kicks in next year, so he was the more likely to be sold.
