They’re not in a stronger position. Their options are the same. Minimum wage or on the dole. One or two examples of a chicken farm doesn’t change that.

That's where you're wrong though, wages are rising, the official figures say so and employers need these workers. The employer/employee relationship has changed in favour of the employees.

You’re talking nonsense. Do you seriously think the millions of people in low paid jobs are all of a sudden getting pay bumps? Jobs they’ve been in for years? It’s not true. Maybe employers in certain instances are recruiting at a higher rate of pay but plenty more are laying people off because of Brexit/Covid, and the vast, vast majority of these people are getting no rises whatsoever while their job security has become worse than before.

Wow, you're ignoring all reasonable evidence and data. I've just given a link showing the official figures on wage rises, you think they've just made them up?

You think a kid in a factory or a youngster on a building site is in a worse employment position now? Really, the country is short of labour, bosses can't afford to let men go, the days of employers given workers the Billy big bollocks of "plenty more workers where you came from" or "workers like you are ten a penny" are over, its well documented.

Here you go. ONS explaining why wages are "rising". Can't see anywhere where they're saying it's the Brexit bonus that you think.

It’s not true for those at the bottom. Says as much in the links you posted. I’m not gonna accuse you of not reading them properly.

People will continue to take minimum wage jobs because that’s their only real option. If a few manage to get another quid per hour in a squalid chicken processing plant then all power to them. Many more people do not and will not have that option.

Almost every news outlet in the Europe agrees Britain is suffering from labour shortages and wages are rising. From the BBC to Russia Today, from the Socialist Worker to the Financial Times.

To deny the above is like denying the existence of Covid because it hasn't affected you personally.

I’m not denying that, I’m talking about the people on the bottom rung of the ladder, but you know that. Have you got any figures of people on minimum wage and zero hours contracts? How many people need Universal Credit to top up their wages? The prospects for those people are not improving, unless they’re ‘fortunate’ enough to live near a meat processing plant.

I've often thought about working for Amazon just out of curiosity to see if it is as bad as I've been lead to believe. I'm happy in my current office job at the moment though but just had a look to see what's currently on offer.

https://amazon.force.com/BBJobDetails?isapply=1&reqid=a0R4U00000Fluw6UAB&shiftId=null&cmpid=SARUEU1078H8&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx-X3nKbl8gIVk77tCh1tuQ1CEAAYASAAEgIM4fD_BwE

Amazon are offering £10 to £10.40 for the day shift and £11.71 to £12.11 for the night shift plus a £1000 sign up bonus if you join before the 18th of September.

For warehouse work round here, that's a very good offer. I've just had a look at other similar jobs available and they are all close to the £10 an hour rate.

The key test will be in six months time to see if this is just a temporary change or a permanent one?

Honestly think it’s going to be incredibly difficult to assess the benefits or otherwise of Brexit because of COVID. Imagine what it’s going to be like when Furlough ends and Rishi wants his money back. The financial earthquake will be so great that I don’t think we’ll even notice Brexit.

Well ni contributions are going up for a start.

Then you have to factor in the target rate for boxes filled and the battle to be able to fill little orders as you can hit your hourly target more easily.

And staff pissing in bottles as it takes too long to actually use the toilet without it docking time (and therefore money) from their targets.

Why don’t you post that Twitter link again, from the woman that writes for the FT, who herself was linking to another post talking about how great it is for workers now.

In America.

What link Turdseye? If you are really concerned about people working for minimum wage in this country (as you hinted to me in a previous post) I would suggest you might be interested in the womens report.

Fuck all to do with America though, sorry geezer.

Or is the report above something we dismiss and ignore? Read it.

Anyone want to give their opinion on the report on Midlands sweatshops? Or are the usual shrills going to drown out debate?

This forum rightly takes the piss out of bad biased journalism but also stands idol and say nothing when Liberal writers get mocked and  attacked. This forum is undoubtedly read beyond our own comfort shores and if posters can't distinguish between good honest writers and mainstream chaff then imo it's not a good look.

Not that I really give a fuvk anyway.
