Ian St John

I am assuming he used to be the ex-player doing a bit of hospitality in that cafe in the kop as he would often walk through the concourse in the middle tier of the kop just before kick off. obviously it's been at least a year (maybe more) since i have seen him, but i always thought how well he was looking pretty much every time.

Fucksake sad news, he was Godfather to my late sister, who was quite proud of that, and I have a nice picture of them both with me Mum and Dad in our front room, must be 1964, I also had his Scotland shirt, which went missing, I know now what happened and will never get it back after finding out last week, wish I had it now as it would be on my wall.

A few years ago we had a few bevvies with Jimmy Case, he'd sometimes come into my local, and I always wanted to ask him about contacting St John, someone on here mentioned that I should go through the club, I was only thinking about it the other day too, just to send regards and mention my sister etc, what a bastard I never did.

RIP Saint, a boyhood hero for sure, and though I was a bit to young, I still love to see that goal in 65 final, a cracker.

To my generation, he was a TV personality, alongside Jimmy Greaves, more than a (former-)footballer. Loved their show as a child. Taking the piss out of Scottish keepers and the like seemed hilarious at the time...

Another club legend sadly gone but he'll never be forgotten.

Rest well Saint.

In 1965, at the age of two, I had to be taken outside at my Auntie's wedding. I obviously have no recollection of it but apparently the Vicar said he was going to read from the book of St John and on hearing that I broke into the St John Chant and wouldn't stop.

My Dad trained me well.

I saw him outside his house approx 33 years ago. I shouted hi and he waved but didn't come down to say hi back.

A highlight for us both, I would imagine.

YNWA. RIP

Liverpool legend and used to love Saint and Greavsie and the theme music which was originally from the 1986 World Cup.

Sadly I think Greavsie won't last too long either.

In an era when ex players become arseholes behind a microphone he and Greavsie were legends both on and off the pitch . Great player blessed with a warm and intelligent personality. There are are sadly too few like him . RIP
