Beer on the mac...

Recommended Posts

Hey folks...

Spilled beer on my laptop a week or so a go and did the usual thing of jumping around the room frantically whilst trying to dry it and avoid the inevitable implosion...

Anyway, I managed to save it, got my laptop keys/mouse sensor changed, but the guys at apple said that the beer will be corrosive and will eventually destroy my internal hardware. I assumed they were being twats and were trying to get me to fork out a shitload of cash for new hardware so thought I'd ask you guys what I should do?

Will the beer REALLY start destroying my hardrive? It seems fine thus far...Is there a cheap option to fix it?

Any help will be much appreciated.

If it's completely dried out in there there isn't much to worry about. It would be a good time to back up important data though.

Hard drives are generally sealed pretty well. Clone the drive or backup your important data just to be on the safe side. You should be able to see if there is any residue on the drive anyway. If theres nothing sticky or wet then it should be fine.
