Dunno if it was just me, but he seemed to be making a lot more forward pressing runs last night, then retreating back, whilst Firmino - who's often the instigator of such things - remained closer to the midfield. Felt like his running was more vertical than lateral and filling in holes behind Trent.

I agree. I put similar on this morning.

I thought he was alright compared to the shit he's been serving up lately.  He cut out the stupid lofted balls and aimless passing just kept things simple and did his job.

I hate when he does this. It worked once against Chelsea at home about 4 years ago and he's been spamming it since.

It's almost as if Firmino playing has a positive affect on the other players around him...

Apart from the "intangible superlative" bit this is an excellent post in the comments below the match report in The Guardian...

Just a little love letter to Henderson.

He has (rightly) come in for criticism over the last few weeks but this game served as a reminder of just how good he is as an all round midfielder.

It seems to be the way these days that we can only view things in a binary, polarised manner; you’re either shit or world class; Maguire or Messi but Henderson is an ode to consistent high level play.

At times he can approach world class yet he lacks that certain indefinable essence of true stardom which sounds like a slight on him but it isn’t, those players are rare. Yet what he lacks in intangible superlative he makes up for in leadership, tone setting aggression, a brilliant repertoire of passing, long, short, line breaking and crossing, tactical intelligence and an iron goad desire to win.

Every successful team needs Henderson’s standard, sometimes 9 but never less than 7 out of 10 week in week out. Of course he has had blips but he is the captain of arguably the best Liverpool team of all time; rightly so.

He will inevitably start to decline and perhaps he already has yet it shouldn’t be forgotten in the maelstrom of modern commentary he is excellent at what he does.

A good post. The 'tactical intelligence' is significant.

No, he should be Liverpool captain and bin that international shite right off.

Is the correct answer.

He's a bright lad and after the racist incidents and all the negative stuff that accompanies being involved with England he should realise that it's just how it is with the clowns who follow them. I have no idea, nor care, what has gone on with Maguire but multi millionaire footballers have to grow thicker skin unless it's racist or physical. And wasn't Maguire involved in some poor behaviour while drinking in Spain(?) in recent years?

From a Liverpool perspective, of course him not playing for England would be ideal. Clearly, it matters to him though. And whatever they are doing with Maguire behind the scenes, he still goes in to bat for him, knowing full well the shit he'll cop online for it.
