Such a guilty pleasure show. Have rewatched it all like 3 times. I particularly like how in its time the show is. It's pure mid 2000's in every way. It's like an artifact now.

I've been rewatching it over the past few months, and I wish I started earlier, in all honesty.

It's really good comfort TV in the lockdown; all the boys living with each other, drinking, gambling, talking shit and chasing women.

Some of it is a little dated(quite a few "retards" and "fags") but it is a dead fun show. For a show with it's reputation as both lifestyle porn and misogyny, I've not found that to be the case. Vince has no money/is broke the vast majority of the time, and while they talk about woman superficially, the women are only interested in them for equally superficial reasons.

The first two seasons are surprisingly well plotted - they both happen over a condensed time period about a single movie. The nudity quotient is also not as high as you remember, there are always pretty girls around, but it's not Banshee, Spartacus, it's not even GoT or The Sopranos in that regard. I was a touch disappointed, to be honest.

Yeah, I think it's less gratuitous than it's made out.

The thing that also worked well and balanced out the show was there were quite a few strong female characters. Ari being mostly subservient to his wife, there being plenty of powerful female agents, Dana, Babs, Amanda Daniels, the red head that fucked Gary Cole's character, Sloan, Shauna the publicist, etc... There were plenty of women that kept them in check. If it hadn't been that way, the show wouldn't have worked, imo.

I understand that they probably got a lot of money to keep going, from HBO, but narratively going on after season 6 made no sense.

It ended perfectly, especially with their tight plotting. E had a non-Vince job, Vince was a star, Ari became the man after an apology from Terrence, then forgave Lloyd; Drama had his deal - it was exactly how to close the show.

6 was also rough enough - with that Ashley story line(annoying, shitty actress, doesn't fit the style of the show) - that you could see the show wasn't at it's peak and you're happy to leave it.

I'm in the middle of their Vince coke storyline, again, and it's just silly. It doesn't follow naturally and, even if it did, why would we care? We've seen the slow ascension, the reversal with Medallion being shit, and then the rise to Gatsby. That's your payoff, he is the guy now.

Find myself forcing the episodes now, when I was devouring 4 at a time, last month.

I did end up laughing at this one, recently, though:

Turtle: We need more tickets to the more premiere, Vince.

Vince: Why?

Turtle: We peaked too early.

E: You're not getting more, we already gave too many away.

Turtle: But if we take these girls to the premiere, they'll fuck us.

E: How do you know this?

Turtle: They said, "If you take us to the premiere, we'll fuck you"
