In britain you can say "Ashley Cole shoots someone" and forget to add the part about the air rifle. How quaint.

I've just seen the coverage in the News of the World, won't post the link of course, but put it this way - in no way do they make it look innocent! They've made it look like a gangland shooting.

But the victim has what- a bad welt? Perhaps some bruising?

This should be a bit of fun. I still remember with fondness a young Jamie Carragher being given the full "Outrage at Soccer Thug" treatment for grazing some lad when he lobbed a pound coin back into the crowd during an FA cup tie v Arsenal about ten years ago. You'd swear he'd shot him from 5 yards such was the indignation. He should be up for parole soon.

ENGLAND ace Ashley Cole shot and wounded a 21-year-old student with a high-powered rifle at Chelsea's training ground.

The star was "larking" with his deadly .22 air gun in the dressing room last Sunday and fired at work placement boy Tom Cowan from just 5ft.

The lad was left in agony with blood pouring from his side. Police were not called. But injured Tom was patched up by team medics and given two days off to recover from the shock.

A source revealed: "The club's terrified this will get out. Cole didn't know the gun was loaded but it's a disgrace. His behaviour beggars belief."

The shocking drama was witnessed by a dozen Chelsea staff including, it is believed, a number of the first team squad.

An inside source told the News of the World last night: "It's truly inconceivable that a Premier League footballer could bring a gun to the training ground.

"But Ashley pulled the rifle from a box and started larking about with it in the changing room, not realising it was loaded. It ended up pointed at Tom just five feet away.

"Then the gun went off with a loud pop and Tom screamed as this lead pellet hit him in the side. It went through his clothing and into his flesh. He was bleeding profusely and it soaked into his training top.

"He was in agony and seemed to go into shock as he steadied himself and sat down on one of the benches."

Tom - a Loughborough sports science student on a year's internship with Chelsea - was not taken to hospital, but instead got emergency treatment from the club's top medical team at their state-of-the-art facilities in the training complex at Cobham, Surrey.

He was given the pellet to hold as he was patched up then allowed two days off to rest and recover. "Tom was sent home with swabs, lots of pads, dressing and gauzes," said our source. "But 48 hours later the wound was still weeping and needed further treatment."

It was last Sunday morning that 30-year-old Cole, who earns £110,000-a-week, turned up to prepare for Tuesday's Champions League tie against FC Copenhagen.

He had with him the .22 air rifle, complete with a muzzle and nightscope. It is the most powerful type of gun you can legally own in Britain without a licence - but it can KILL if misused.

It makes a mockery of Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti's much trumpeted assertion that he would never enforce a code of conduct on his scandal-hit Chelsea players' private lives - provided they behaved in training.

He said: "We can't put on our players how they have to behave outside... we are interested only in our training sessions and our matches."

On Wednesday injured Tom - who earns only a tiny fraction of Cole's wages in his work placement role - was asked to attend a three-hour meeting with anxious Chelsea officials in the office of assistant first team coach Bruno Demichelis.

Police weren't called regarding the shooting and insiders say the club has gone into "lockdown" over the incident, anxious that details would be made public.

Chelsea bosses are said to be "deeply worried" over the scandal.

"There's huge concern about this getting out," said our source. "It would be a PR disaster if this became public knowledge, so the club has closed ranks over it. They've moved quickly to prevent anyone outside the most trusted inner circle from finding out what went on. They had to sort the situation out and move on as quickly as possible.

"A professional footballer bringing a gun to training is not just overstepping the mark, it's taking a running leap over it.

"And for him to shoot a young lad who's really only a student here to learn... it's a disgrace. Tom is a starstruck teenager who really looked up to the senior professionals.

"But that's now been shattered. Ashley is supposed to be setting an example about how professional footballers behave. For him to defy the authorities at the club and bring in such a dangerous weapon is shameful.

"Just what on earth was he thinking? It shows a total lack of discipline."

Another source revealed to the News of the World that Tom's dad Ronald, a 51-year-old quantity surveyor, is furious about his son's treatment and held a second meeting with Chelsea officials on Thursday.

It is believed he demanded to know what action would be taken against Cole, who was divorced by X Factor judge Cheryl last year for cheating.

Our insider said: "Ron's angry and feels let down. He thought Tom had been called in on Wednesday to get counselling and help coming to terms with what happened. But in fact the club was also trying to find out if he planned to take the matter further.

"Ron thinks Chelsea have a duty of care to his son and wants to make sure this isn't brushed under the carpet. He needs to know that Cole realises the consequences of his actions."

Under British law the incident could be deemed actual bodily harm with a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and an unlimited fine.

Powerful rifles similar to Cole's are used for hunting and pest control to shoot rats and pigeons. They can be bought for a little as £50, but the model that Cole took into the dressing room is believed to be a top of the range weapon costing around £150.

It's not the first time Chelsea's training facility, into which owner Roman Abramovich pumped millions, has been the centre of controversy.

In December 2009, a News of the World investigation found Chelsea captain John Terry took a secret £10,000 cash payment to fix a behind-the-scenes tour.

He did it without Ancelotti's permission, but later claimed he was giving the proceeds to charity.

You do wonder what the useless twat was doing bringing an air rifle to training.

Or what he was doing bringing it with him anywhere. What a cunt, unfortunately nothing surprises me anymore with football players. Except if they actually behave well.
