Current top managers, who where the best players?

Rinus Michels was the architect of the dutch "total football" and no doubt was a huge influence on Cruyff.

If we're talking great players who were ex managers, Franz Beckenbauer was pretty special too.

Read a few interesting books on that subject that suggest that he and Cruyff perfected it but didn't infact invent it and even weirder that some of the credit for it goes to some bloke called Jack (surname escapes me) who was Ajax's only English manager.

Can't believe no one has said Zico.

Even though he's out of work, I'd add Zola. But I'd remove Bruce - a prick as a player who's even worse as a manager.

Can anyone think of any ex-Manc whose done well and shown some class?

Busby but then he had us to show him the way.

Ironic they are called the red devils because that's what that story reminds me of. He left heaven to find his own way but adapted what he was taught for evil and set up his own personal hell. Still well thought of by many who played alongside him though apparently.

Maybe not top managers or managers of top clubs/countries, but certainly good/great players:

- Thomas Nkono, Cameroon

- Eric Gerets, Morocco

- Alain Giresse, Mali

- Roberto Donadoni, Cagliari

- Dan Petrescu, Kuban Krasnodar

- Jan Ceulemans, Westerlo

- Andrei Kanchelskis, FC Ufa
