Steve Coppell

Steve Coppell was born in Liverpool. Often wondered why neither Liverpool or Everton were not interested in him when he was at Tranmere.

 

Decent guy who I briefly(extremely briefly) met at Liverpool University in the seventies. He got a degree in Economic History.

 

Difficult not to like him unless you belong to the school of ' I hate former ManU players' .

Coppell isn't scouse he's from Birkenhead

 

Nope, he's from Fazakerley. His brother Kevin is a mad red. Went on the lash with Steve when he was at Uni and playing for Tranmere. For those of you in Huyton we started in The Hillside and ended up at the then Top Rank. I still laugh about Steve being worried about being in The Hilly, I told him not to worry as most of the stories about the place weren't true- just as some bloke gets up and hits another fella over the head with a bar stool !!

In those days he was a very level headed bloke and good company.

He seems like a decent bloke and if England insists on having an English manager, then they could do far worse than him.

Completely agree, and never thought I'd do that when discussing stupid faces with you! Also hate that holding his arm in front of him thing he does as if he is reading a note he wrote to himself on his hand. Irrationally irritating celebration

 

Well he is a Reading player.
