Came up for me too and I had no idea either - so googled it....

In the late 2010s and early 2020s, a new wave of post-punk bands mainly from Britain and Ireland emerged. The groups in this scene have been described with the term "Crank Wave" by NME and The Quietus in 2019, and as "Post-Brexit New Wave" by NPR writer Matthew Perpetua in 2021. Perpetua describes the groups in the scene as " bands that kinda talk-sing over post-punk music, and sometimes it's more like post-rock." Many of the acts are associated with producer Dan Carey and his record label Speedy Wunderground, and with The Windmill, an all-ages music venue in Brixton, London. Artists that have been identified as part of the style include Black Midi, Squid, Black Country, New Road, Dry Cleaning, Shame, Sleaford Mods, Fontaines D.C., The Murder Capital, Idles and Yard Act.

Other post-punk bands from North America and Europe that gained popularity in the 2010s and early 2020s included Parquet Courts, Protomartyr, Geese, Preoccupations, Iceage, Cola and Viagra Boys.

An on brand year, actually listened to a lot more hip hop, spanish and classical over the year but can't dilute the overall picture...

Slayer popping up as my most listened was a bit of a surprise though. Weird that not one of the top bands had a top song.

Shite Day rep.

May the Lord have mercy on Stringy Bob.

I'd love to know who that's based on. There's not many bands that can deadpan an excellent joke into the middle of a song- 'Wanted- keyboard player, Doors, Floyd etc. Must be committed. You can guess the rest.'

Still at least Phil Cool got a dead bird out of it all.

I've never even heard of Big Thief. I suppose I should give them a whirl.

Same mate. I’ve never heard of PJ Harvey either

Edit - in fact there’s loads I don’t recognise looking through everyone’s lists. Absolute philistine

Its PJ Harvey.

There’s tribes in the Amazon who have barely encountered the modern world who know of PJ Harvey.

Hmmm. This is a bit someone wondering what’s up with somebody for not knowing who Steve Earle is. Critically acclaimed, high level industry respect, but not exactly John Lennon levels of fame!
