I think as soon as ridiculous bids such as the amount Chelsea are alleged to have bid for Torres, ditto Ronaldo to Real, it sets a new standard of what is 'acceptable' in the market and all values are dragged up as a result. Fucking clubs are running themselves into massive debts because of this shit, and a lot of the blame falls on the shoulders of a billionaire with a dodgy background who at times seems to treat the multi-million dollar thing he owns called a football club like his toy of the week and doing his bit to fuck football in the process. When stupid sums like £80m were being talked about for Ronaldo (which I don't think Real were ever going to offer otherwise they'd have him by now), it gave everyone else carte blanch to ask ridiculous sums for 'ordinary' players.
