Anfield pitch size

Not by any means making excuses for yesterday, it's just something that I've always felt hinders us against teams defend deep and park the bus, the compactness of the pitch is surely helpful to them. I know the premier league apparently imposed regulations regarding pitch length and width but oura doesnt look anything as big as the ethihad, the emirates, old trafford or even the liberty stadium today.

Bit of an urban myth this on the whole.

They used to say it about Wembley being some big open space that stretched legs... it was utter bollocks, pitches differ by a few feet at the most.

However, it seems you do have a point at Anfield.

United:     116 x 76 – 8816 sq.yards

City:         116.5 x 78 – 8932 sq.yards

Liverpool: 110 x 75 – 8250 sq.yards

However, Everton, QPR, Spurs and West Ham are even smaller, so in that sense it's a hard sell that it's affecting performances very much. It doesn't stop Suarez playing well.

All in all, a lot of it seems to be optical illusion and the way the grounds are built. Some pitches do look a LOT bigger, and in reality, they aren't.

What we need is the widest and longest pitch in the league and then to start all the players on a EPO programme so they can cover 15km per game... except Lovren of course, who'll be in a catatonic stupor after every game trying to keep up with them all. Punishment for being a knob.
