There probably aren't many, but I reckon Addams Family Values is one of the few.

 

Strong arguments to be made for The Godfather; Part II and Superman II.

I am agreeable to the second Godfather somehow exceeding the first.

 

Also worth mentioning Nolan’s dark knight far outstripping Batman Begins.

Agreed,  different genres I suppose, slasher vs action, but T2 is flawless and has the greatest villain in film, for my money.

Not The Godfather argument again! View them as one long film and you cannot have one without the other. Both immense and neither is worthy of watching by itself. Both or nothing for me.

Not quite a film sequel, but I just sat through the Sandra Bullock film ‘The Unforgivable’ which is based on a 3 part UK mini-series from 2009 called ‘Unforgiving’

 

I’m impressed with Bullock’s ability to bring something extra to the screen, whatever the genre - a great comedienne, obviously, but this is possibly her best ever performance, and I was reeled in. Excellent heavy duty drama that had me squirming on the couch with anxiety.

 

Great film. 9/10

John Wick 2 is a top shout. That was the first one I watched and was pissed at the time. An incredible experience.
