It's a ciggie paper between him and big game James as to who's been our best free transfer signing since Gary Mac.

Both great players, both loved by the fans. We'll miss them when they're gone, so let's really enjoy it while they're here!

You'd have to say Milner sneaks it because of his much better injury record, but a classy centre half really does say ' typical Liverpool player' and Matip is exactly that.

I wouldn't argue mate, Milner rarely let's us down, but I love how calm Matip is, and nice to see one of his runs out of defence end with a great goal.

One of the best CBs we’ve ever had. Might sound hyperbolic but he’s head and shoulders above Louvren, Skrtyl, Mark Wright, Scales, Babb, Ruddock, Matteo, Agger etc. He’s on a par with Sami easily.

So, is that just Hansen, VVD, Lawro and Yeats ahead of him? Smith? Carra?

I’d put him in that bracket for sure. This is one of the greatest five teams we’ve ever had down the years and he’s part of that. If he’d stayed fit more alongside VVD we’d be taking about them as a Jocky/Lawro wouldn’t we?
