On the subject of house prices...

This is not a way to run an equitable, efficient or sustainable economy.

You're making a very simple mistake here though Mal, the majority of politicians of all parties couldn't give a flying fuck about that. They are OK and anyone who doesn't have that kind of money floating around is just a lazy oik who should drag themselves up, work hard and just get on and find that money.

In the meantime they can leave everybody to fight amongst themselves about shit that mostly doesn't matter while they and their mates make out like bandits.

Page 23 of the Times today, 3 stories:

1 - EU workers have left the U.K. and now prefer living and working in Germany.

2 - Massive need for workers in the Lake District, U.K. workers aren’t even applying for the roles

3 - Lack of seasonal workers is leaving fruit and veg in the fields. As they aren’t able to fulfil supermarket contracts the supermarkets will go abroad for veg next year.

Great. All three of the above are positives for reginal employees. The greater the need for workers the greater the likelihood of wage increases. If they pay, people play.

I take you've missed the wages rises given to construction/haulage/agricultural workers recently then? Or were they just a happy coincidence or employers feeling generous?

Koch family behind this move. Countryside to be concreted over. Slash workers rights. Shite Yank food standards. Work till you drop.

They could still do takeovers before, and it mentions Boots in 2007, think of Kraft and Cadbury’s, too.

This is only the beginning, they won’t stop now.

Why would the Queen want a job driving HGVs?

Great, opportunities for back breaking seasonal work, just what every British worker dreams of as they struggle to manage mortgage and childcare payments.

At least the ones who do choose to do the work have received a sixty per cent pay rise, or would you rather continue watching overseas workers being exploited?

No I'd rather we had implemented rules, entirely compatible with EU membership, not to exploit any workers wherever they were from.  That was a choice by the UK.

You think people picking fruit and veg will see a 60% pay rise?  And if so what happens to the price of British produce? And then what happens to sales of British produce?

God.; people actually arguing against low paid workers finally getting a much needed pay rise.

Arguing against? Nah, but you make stuff up to avoid answering the questions.

Based on the general lifestyle of the UK do you think seasonal work is appealing?

Do you think an approach of abnormal pay increases, to attract workers for whom back breaking seasonal work is either entirely unsuitable or undesirable, is sustainable?  If so, how? Premium priced fruit and veg for those who can afford it?

Truly sunlit uplands.
