Won't happen though. I'm still not convinced we're making the best use of Gerrard's talents where he is right now. Yes he's playing great but he'd play great anywhere on the pitch. Rafa had it right with him. You want Steven Gerrard as close to the box as possible and with little defensive duties.

He has yes, like I said, he'd be great no matter where we played him. Would he be better closer to the box with Henderson and Lucas doing the donkey work behind him, imo yes.

 

Even if he's only got the legs to do it for 60-70 minutes, then you bring on the pace on the bench like Moses, Sterling or Ibe.

Henderson hasn't been playing in midfield. There's no reason Moses can't muck in defensively.

It's great to see people arguing about who should be starting and it shows all the different options we have. It seems like a long time as we all we have done for a while now is just moan about how shite everyone is.

 

For me the front 3 picks itself at the moment in Sturridge, Coutinho and Suarez. The midfield 3 picks itself as well. Gerrard ,Lucas and Henderson. Both sets of trios complement each other very well.

 

In terms of Gerrard yeah it would be great to play him further up the pitch but is the person replacing Gerrard in his midfield role going to be anywhere near the standard of player that you are taking out of that front 3? The answer is obviously no. For me Gerrard hit a lull in that position anyway. He's got his fight back playing in centre mid and he's also got his form back. Without many people noticing he's actually been pretty good for about 18 months or so and is a lot like his old self.

 

The back four is just going to depend on fitness and form. We've got Toure who is our experienced head who may not be able to play every game as it has showed. Agger is the heart of the defence but has a terrible injury record. Skrtel is our bully but his form goes up and down like a yoyo. So the manager went out and signed a good up and coming cb in Sakho and a youth player in Ilori.

Suarez and Sturridge can both pull wide, Coutinho can go everywhere fucking shit up. Henderson and Gerrard can take turns bombing on. Although I guess Hendo will do more bombing and Gerrard more passing.

 

If we need to switch it up we've got Moses and Sterling to come on to provide width.

Agree with that. Forget the Mkhitaryan, Diego Costa, Willian etc... if we want the best source of goals and assists from attacking midfield, we need looking no further than Gerrard. Even though he's been very good since the start (in all honesty, as you said, he would be great wherever he's played), I sincerely think we are only getting a fraction of what we should actually be getting out of him in that deeper role.
