Half the baseboards frames built and installed for the OO scale railway in the garage. Built these early December before I caught the lurgy.

Adjustable feet on the legs make getting everything level pretty easy. The legs will need braces for extra rigidity. Got to fit one maybe two double sockets which will be spurred off another socket on the other side of the wall.

Need to order some more wood early in the New Year to build the framework for the other side. That's going to be a little more complicated as I have to build either a swing gate or lift up section as the old girl's knees cant take a crawl under. After that, it's getting some exterior grade plywood to go on top of the frames.

The Metabo (Hitachi) mitre saw is a great bit of kit. Makes cutting the wood a piece of piss.

Fucking ace.

There's a model railway shop near us in Sheffield, I'm lead to believe it's one of - if not the - best in the UK. They sell a few board games so I've been in and I must admit to being fascinated by it all, albeit it's not something I think I'd ever get in to. It's always busy and they've not long spent a lot of money refurbishing the shop, so it must be lucrative! The prices of some of the scale models are eye-watering.

That be Rails (of Sheffield)? Yes, Id say them and Hattons are on a par. Bought some locos in preparation from them. Items as described, good price and delivery.

Rails must have had a good Christmas because they've sold out of a lot of stock!

This is plan v15 of the proposed layout. Im not happy with the 2 yellow lines below the station. I want to create some sort of container terminal but cant get it to work just yet!

Layout is going to be just under 5m long by 2.6m wide. Havent decided whether to use scale bull head track or flat bottomed rail. Not all the points I intend to use are available in the bull head yet and Peco seem very slow releasing new items.

Are you going digital or old school track circuits ?

Ive already got the Gaugemaster Prodigy Express so will be DCC and digital. With old school DC, they say you drive the track because you just increase the voltage to make the trains move while DCC, you drive individual trains because the voltage stays constant. You can program what they call 'cv's' on the chip to make the trains pull away slower and take longer to stop like they're pulling a heavy load etc.

With DCC you can do some really cool stuff like block detection and automation but I dont think I'll be going that far.

But it will all be done in stages which is why the layout has been designed as basically 3 loops. Means I dont have to buy all the track and point motors all at once!

Some locos are already DCC sound fitted with others are DCC ready so need a sound chip and speaker to be fitted to them. The old girl prefers kettles while Im more diesels.

Point motors will either be DCC Concepts IP Digitals or IP Analogues. Both incorporate polarity switching on the point 'frogs' to avoid short circuits as the trains cross over the tracks.

I put two legs on a television yesterday. It only leans forward a bit so as long as nobody goes near it, I’m sure it will be fine.

Had to borrow my eldest’s Swiss Army knife for the screws, so couldn’t get them all the way down as I’m a shit workman with shit tools.

Couldn’t ask the wife if I could borrow her screwdriver set as we’ve fallen out.

Roar.

You have long falling outs. Are you waiting until after the holiday season to apologise? If so,I like the strategy.

That sounds great. Keep us posted with pics. I’m years away from building anything, garage full of kids stuff.

It’s been more a succession of small, regular, falling outs brought on by an inability to spend time together amicably. Some might say it’s the very definition of a long term relationship. Not me obviously.

Blocked drains - spent the morning with my arm in the bog, before moving to the poo soup of the outside drain. Bailing out my own turds, poking at the hole, hitting it with a pressure washer, then finally admitting defeat and calling a specialist.

But, I tried, didn't I? Goddamnit, at least I did that.

Don’t bite your fingernails for a few days.

Main drivers electric window switch on my sportage was causing the other windows not to work, I found out after a few sojourns on the owners club online.

200 quid for the switch panel alone,  before fitting at the main dealer! Local mechanic 100 quid plus the 200 for the switch!

Fuck that!

Quick search on eBay,2nd hand one procured, from Lithuania of all places, for 60quid including delivery, and a week later, with thanks to some very helpful you tubers, I removed door panel, fixtures and fittings, replaced the switch, screwed everything back together and it's a good as.

Saved myself at least 200 quid and I also lubricated the sticky sunroof, not a metaphor surprisingly, so that's working proper again.

Currently strolling around the gaff bout 8 feet tall.

Tie a carrier bag around the head of a mop and use it like a plunger.

It works like a charm and unblocks toilets and drains alike.

I learned it on youtube after many occasions of on arm down the bog.

Took the dog for a walk earlier, found a Hedgehog curled up looking like it was on its last legs, so broke into full Daktari mode - located our nearest Hedgehog rescue centre on me phone, went straight home, got a blanket, a box and Mrs Butty(someone had to hold the box) then drove back, found it again, wrapped it up in the blanket, got it in the car and got it to the Hedgehog rescue centre.

The lady there was sound, she established its sex(he), we weighed him, gave him a booster injection and wrapped him in a blanket and placed him in his own box with special food. She then asks me my name, contact details and what I’d like to name him -  you’ll all be pleased to know, Jurgen is in good hands and on the road to recovery.
I’ll be calling back in a few days to see how he’s getting on. Rooooooar!

She had two rows of 7 boxes,  the top row had the most recent, that’s where Jurgen went and made it 7,  the lower row was full with HH’s in a better state and she told me there was a load more in the shed and garage and they’re ready to be released in the next few days. Guessing she must have had about 25-30. Possibly more.

Not the only sticky sunroof you lubricated that night I’d say.
