In the Telegraph, they have given the break up of the money earned by all the clubs this season. According to them, in Europe this year, manure got 28.9m, chelski- 26.4m and us 26.0m and a further 2m if we win the bloody thing. This is including the TV money and performance bonus. How come we end up earning less than manure even if win the champions league. Are these figures right ?

 

This also shows how important is CL to the balance sheet. Manure gets 30 odd million for winning the premiership. While Spurs gets 27 odd for coming 5th. Only 3 million less. But reaching the UEFA cup quarterfinals gets only 2m for the spurs, while Arsenal gets 14m for reaching the knock out rounds of CL.

 

This also shows how important is to have a manager like Rafa , with tactical nous in Europe. Even when both clubs are not challenging for the league, Rafa's expertise in Europe makes us a good 12m more in Europe compared to Arsenal.

These are figures for this year, hence the additional 2m for us if we win CL. BTW, I was asking about manure earning more than us in Europe, not league.

Like Barry said, the mancs earn more than us in Europe because of their league position last year.

man u earn more than us because they get a greater share of the tv money due to finishing 2nd. i'm not quite sure how they out-earnt chelsea.

Is it as simple as man u's gate receipts being more than both us and Chelsea.....you keep your own for the CL dont you?

 

You also used to get CL money for actually winning a game dont know if they still do that..........

Nah, the article is just talking about TV money and games won in the group stages, gate receipts are seperate.

Those figures are by no means final, UEFA don't actually publish till mid June the breakdowns. They are Winter's own calculations, and he probably got it wrong, especially as Chelsea had a better group stage record than the Mancs.

Does anyone have a link to an article about the new revenue system for the PL.

 

That is exciting stuff, and it really should be this way too - the CL should only be a bonus, winning the league is supposed to be the top prize. As it is now CL is actually almost as important, or even more important.

 

will there be much difference between 1st and 3rd?
