Dont get the Europa League hate when its now finally got a Champions League spot as an added prize for winning it.

If teams are too arrogant not to compete 100% for the place with squads of 40 players then shame on them clubs and their managers and players.

I don't get why people think that a club with a large squad should automatically take the Europa League more seriously, even if it does offer a Champions League place to the winners. With a large squad, you might be able to rotate players to keep them fresh but the coaching staff have to be there ALL the time, so the issues of physical and mental fatigue apply there too. My biggest problem with the Europa League is that it's far too big and because games are played on Thursdays, it provides a disadvantage to clubs in their league campaign because they have to play on a Sunday, usually after all their domestic rivals in the league have played. Playing catch-up all the time wears you out mentally more than physically, especially when you know you HAVE to win.

The fact anyone who sees him as a major coup says it all. And as far as I know, the club is actively working for this.

The only people who are labeling it a major coup are the ones who have an axe to grind with the signing and so need to build it up so they can have a go. Even those who are pro-signing him only see it as a smart signing (potentially) for his versatility and energy.

Robbie Savage. A thick chav gobshite who can barely string a sentence together and we're supposed to pay heed to what he has to say. Utterly clueless. If he was a fan on the terraces he'd be the twat with his top off trying to be hard and using the term "fucking grass" and meaning it.

Utter tool.

A competition we have won spectacularly a few times should not be disrespected.

We wouldnt have had the 'disadvantage' if we hadnt have messed up our weak-ish CL group.

Europe is still my major question mark over BRs ability as our club manager.

Any disrespect Liverpool might give to the competition pales into insignificance compared to the insult that is staging it on Thursday night, hidden away like Rochester's wife. If Uefa can't be bothered treating it right, don't be surprised if clubs and fans join in.

It's funny that UEFA actually had the best set-up when there were 3 competitions and a good mix of quality teams in each of them. Because they were so scared of the biggest European clubs breaking away to form a European superleague, they compromised to the extent we have the massive disparity in the standing of their 2 remaining competitions, and it's all about the money to be made from being in the Champions League. If they'd got together with the clubs and worked out a way that the prestige, money, sponsorship and media exposure was more evenly spaced between the 3 competitions they had, it would have meant that no competition was viewed as a hindrance or irrelevance.

This.

The only way forward now is to find someway to merge the CL and EL into one. It would mean many more and larger groups, maybe 6, 8 or 10 teams in each.

I dont think we have disrespected the CL, we were just gash during that time in the league and CL took place.

We've sent 'weakened' teams out in the FA Cup and Premier League before now as a means to an end. Didnt see people whinging about disrespecting then.

Back in the day weren't the Cup Winners Cup games staged on Thursday nights (UEFA on Tuesdays, EC on Wednesdays) and then teams would be expected to fly home and play on Saturday. The competition has been treated like shit from its inception as the Europa Cup but Thursday night games are low down the list of complaints from me.

Back in the 90's when the Champions League became a thing, Uefa Cup matches were played on a Tuesday and the ECWC on a Thursday. But that wasn't the case before then. The Thursday night games are my biggest bugbear with the Europa League. It just screams second-class.

Not in the slightest, it's a common tactic.

Hard to be outraged by something when people aren't making a big deal of it so if you make out people are it's easier to generate the reaction you want.

Sky Sports News. There was nothing better than coming home from school and hitting Ceefax page 302, before settling on the football News in Brief on 312 after going through the big stories. That's all it needed, but now we need to know what shoe size Diego Costa takes and why Nathaniel Clyne is getting a new haircut.
