Replacing Lovren or not replacing him was a valid debate when you see how little we've actually used a 4th CB this season. It just didn't go our way last season.

The assumption (which was fair at the time) was that Matip and Gomez wouldn't stay fit but that's just not been the case this season. We had horrific look last year, it happens.

The Salah contract debate is a variation of the same FSG debate.

Some people think we're never ambitious enough and not paying him what he wants is a lack of ambition. The rest understand how this club is run and why this is a really difficult situation and decision for the club.

I’m not FSGs biggest fan but I totally get where they’re coming from here.

Why are people saying he would be Mbappe's replacement - he doesn't play CF ver well, especially in a 433. That would be a step backwards for them.

Messi is the one PSG need to shift to have this work.

Because Mbappe is leaving.

I don’t think people are talking about Salah being a replacement tactically, I think it’s more in the big-name-forward way.

Messi would self combust sitting on the bench behind Salah - it would be glorious.

That said you would have two of the greatest right sided forwards in your squad simply for the money.

Messi didn't want to leave Barca but no one else could afford him. He has to regret going there.

Salah saying he doesn't want to leave Liverpool but no one else can pay his "market rate" so he is stuck at PSG.

Not a good start to the old team morale.

If it’s true he wants £500k a week then he’s got to go really. You can’t have him earning over twice the wages of Virgil and Alli and I doubt we’re interested in adding another £100k plus a week on to theirs wages. Fair enough make him our highest paid player, nobody can argue he’s worth it but it would just fuck with the squad harmony. I’d sooner we took any potential bank breaking wages and threw them at Kloppo.

Which is not as good as what they have now. If Mo thinks he doesn't get passed to now wait til he plays in that lineup.

Agreed. Salah would be the only player running. Wouldn't matter for 80% of their games though.

Neymar is on about three quarters of a million quid a week, and is contracted until 2026. They're stuck with him.

Not impressed by his agent and by extension Salah. Very disrespectful considering what Liverpool and Klopp have done for him. His agent works for him, he could easily have a word.

Personally I've always believed it's team over player. £500k a week or thereabouts is too much for us. He's worth every penny so if PSG are prepared to pay up front a year early I assume we'll cash in?

We won't be able to replace like for like but we've clearly got a track record for spotting up and coming talent so I can't say I'm too worried.

Anyone listen to Derrick on the Merseyside football phone in after todays game? Got cut off as he was about to say something about Mo and frequenting a local hotel, very strange. Anyone know what the fuck he was on about?

He’s been spotted at a hotel near Brighton. Huge if true.

You don’t think Mane, Van Dijk and possibly Allison may want parity when their time comes? I certainly wouldn’t bet on that mate.

We haven't even offered mane a new contract yet as far as I know and it runs out the same time as Salah's. We signed Mane's replacement in January. And VVD and Alisson have just signed new contracts. So tough shit if they want more money, they've had their chance to ask for more and they've found a salary that works for them, which is why they signed their long term deals.

Contracts don’t mean anything

Gomez has missed a decent chunk of this season, we just haven't noticed because we have 3 better centre backs who've remained fit. We'd have noticed his absences if he was VVDs first choice partner.

Where has anyone said he wants 500k per week? In fact the suggestions have been much less and that Fabrizio or whoever he is on Twitter who everyone seems to love thinks they're not very far away on money. All that has been discussed is PSG are willing to give him that to go there. It doesn't mean he's asking for parity with that or close to it.

Well clearly they do, because right now we're literally talking about Salah signing one.

No, they don’t, see Suarez, see Coutinho, see endless countless examples. It’s all one way traffic, contracts benefit only the player, if they suddenly decide they don’t like the contract they fuck off. The only plus for the club is protection from a Bosman
