Nirvana plus a zillion other bands vs Adams. Mount St.Helens, that fish market, aquarium, space needle thing. Microsoft and Bowing. Seattle wins.

Hey, I didn't mention some decent Vancouver bands*, it's just that Nirvana were so head and shoulders above most everything in this region that I gave it to them anyway. But it's not like Bryan Adams is the only musician to come from here! Mt St Helens isn't Seattle. you're thinking of Rainier, still a decent sight against a gorgeous backdrop of.... er, rain. Oh wait...

I already gave props to Pikes Market, and the Space Needle. Microsoft and Boeing can go fuck themselves, but what about Electronic Arts if we're going to mention big corporations?

So, overall, Seattle might tie, but definitely doesn't win.

*DOA, Skinny Puppy, Dayglo Abortions, Nomeansno, Matthew Good Band, Sarah McLaughlin, The New Pornographers, Black Mountain, Blood Meridian, the Be Good Tanyas, Destroyer, AC Newman, Salteens, Swollen Members, Moist, Rascalz, the Organ. Not all to everyone's taste, but that's just off the top of my head, and there's some worthwhile music in amongst that lot. Nothing of the magnitude of Nirvana or early Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, though. Like I say, for a similarly sized small-ish city, Seattle kicks butt in this category.

That's fair enough, but Electronic Arts can go fuck themselves aswell! Nomeansno now there's a band and a half. It's just cos I've been to Seattle and not Vancouver, oh and 'cos you're a Manc.

Ha ha. EA are probably a Yank company now, anyway. Couldn't think of anyone else that were sort of global. Greenpeace? :D

Now why would you visit one without the other? Vancouver is actually a great city, all joking apart. So's Seattle, really.

I watched a program last week on BBC2 about a gigantic earthquake hitting Seattle, one of the main plates is right on the coastline or something and if she goes it's going to be the biggest earthquake ever recorded. It'll last approximately 10 miniutes and they're expecting it now or it could be in 10 years, or it could be in 100 years. A massive tidal wave would follow it too wiping out most of Portland, Seattle and some other places. Spooky stuff...

Yeah, Benfica were shite..

Yeah, if that happened, Vancouver would be toast, too.

Tokyo as well is sometimes called the "city waiting to die" as it's so due a massive quake that geologists call it a near certainty, and soon.

There was a quake centred in (I think) Olympia a few years ago that slightly damaged Starbucks HQ in Seattle and didn't do a whole helluva lot else. It was a pretty big one in the Richter sense, but fortunately it was something like 30 kms deep in the ground. If it had been shallow, Seattle might now look like New Orleans after Katrina, only with slightly less water and a lot less people. The thing is, all the way up here, I felt it. Thought I was having a drug flashback, or my eyes were moving independently or something. I grabbed the dog and went outside instinctively. Although the right thing to do is stay inside, away from windows, but under something solid like a sturdy table or a doorway, apparently.

Benfica weren't all that (although what a fucking goal that was), but United are good right now. Not great. Yet. Should've put City away a lot earlier today.

Yeah, they were talking about what to do, basically protect your head at all costs, thats all they were going on about anyways was your nut.

This "superquake" though, I doubt anybody in buildings would have any sort of chance, saying that anyone outside would be pretty much fucked too as the tidal wave would reach Seattle within 30 seconds. They predicted five to ten miniutes of shaking which would leave pretty much every building, including modern skyscrapers flattened and the surface, like roads and pavements (or sidewalks, depending where your from) would be as wavy as water and throwing people around and up in the air like rag dolls....

They created a computer visual of what it would more than likely be like and the chaos was scary, cities affected would basically be no more.
