The Everton team of the 1980's

I have read one or two pieces recently about how they were the team of the 1980's. Now, what the fuck is that all about?

- 4 League Cups, back to back, beating them in the 1984 final.

- 2 European Cups.

- League and Cup double, when it wasn't something achieved regularly.

- Several league titles.

- 2 FA Cups, beating them both times.

They had a couple of good seasons...3 at the most. I will fucking love it when Villareal knock them out next week and they struggle to get in the top half of the league...Normal service will be resumed.

Neville Southall claimed that in his Echo column a few years ago. I wrote to him pointing out his err................miscalculation. He replied apologising but wouldn't retract the statement in his Echo column.

Heard Kenwright saying something similar. Saying europe was natural for everton in the 80s and few teams won more than them. Of course the fact we cleaned up most of the trophies in the 80s there wasn't much left to go around :D

Everton had 3 good seasons in the 80's, the rest of the time they moved between average and crap. Their average gate was about 27,000 for the decade despite winning two Championships, many gates were below 15,000. I remember going to a league game there against Birmingham on a Saturday afternoon-the attendance was 13,000.

They were known as the Very Few Peoples Club in those days.

Got to say Southall was a great keeper. I think he made the difference between a decent, competitive side and a side that won a few things...

agree southall was a great keeper and probably one of the main reasons they aint in the 1st div.
