  1. I think Steve Anglesey mailed out a mass reply. The one I got completely ignores the point that Lawrenson was being a cunt. Even though it was pulled, they seem to think it's OK because Lawrenson doesn't like Rafa any more. It then goes on to ask for thoughts on a Richie Buxton blog. I think the point of that is to say if he can call the owners, why shouldn't Lawrenson do the same to Rafa:
  2. Kevin McDonkey, as he was commonly known amongst our fans. Not very good really, but I think playing for us helped him raise his game, and he did have some good ones. Often poor though.
  3. One reason Chelsea bring up Heysel is that John Smith tried to blame it on them. Which was very silly. I think we should grit our teeth over Heysel references, and just try to make sure people are able to separate it from the Hillsborough issues.
  4. We played Millwall at home early in the season. A lot of them up came up and we had loads out obviously. I don't remember that much real trouble though, as the police were on top after we'd had Boro at home a week or two before. The Scousers that Millwall really hate are the Blue Schite, something to do with a Cup game in the early 70s I believe. The Blues had their away game down there before us in 1988, and they had a few lads there! One or two Reds with them in those days.
  5. Right. That would be game, set and match to them, just the result they were looking for when they took Bascombe on.
  6. Some of their fans came on that thread - they gave him a 300-car escort all the way to his hotel. He's the big signing for their centenary year.
  7. After the 4th, I heard something like 'route 1 football again'. Never mind the 'again' bit, but it was a goal kick FFS.
  8. And none of his mates went back to help him out either.
  9. Why should UEFA get involved anyway? It wasn't a European game so any action should be sorted out domestically. British clubs were never banned for domestic incidents. If they had been we might never have had the chance to stack up our European Cups.
  10. At least this one's not our fault - yet. Everton 'disgusted' with Uefa as protest is ignored Tony Leighton Monday October 15, 2007 The Guardian Beset by off-field problems for which they blame Uefa, Everton look set to end their Women's Cup second-round tournament in Belgium with the disappointment of failing to reach the quarter-finals in the club's first season of European football. That is in stark contrast to the holders Arsenal, who are through to the last eight for the sixth time in as many attempts after comfortably winning the first two of their three games in the four-team tournament they are hosting in Hertfordshire. Everton have lost their opening two games - both 2-1 to stoppage-time goals - against the host side Rapide Wezemaal and the German champions, FFC Frankfurt. In order to progress they must tomorrow beat the Icelandic team Valur Reykjavik by at least four goals while hoping that Frankfurt beat Wezemaal. That mighty task is the latest in a series of obstacles which the manager, Mo Marley, says have been placed in the way of her team. "We had to play in fog and under floodlights that weren't the best in our first game," said the former England captain. "I'm not making that an excuse for losing, but I'm disgusted with Uefa for what followed. The other two teams in the group, who had played their first game earlier in the day, refused to play their second matches under the floodlights so at short notice Uefa brought the times forward and that affected us badly. "We had far less preparation time than Frankfurt and then we weren't provided with a pre-match meal, so we had to go into a game against one of the best teams in the world at a real disadvantage. We protested about the situation but Uefa disregarded us, yet when a big club like Frankfurt shouts 'boo' people jump. Isn't that a bit like the men's game?"

I remember a few clashes with them late 80s/early 90s.
  12. If he's going to give any big secrets away, then I don't see how putting him on gardening leave will stop that.
  13. There was a very vocal "Rush Must Stay" campaign in the weeks before the end of the season. It was too late by then of course, but Rushie never seemed to discourage it. I don't remember any problems for him at Juventus and, though it might seem strange looking back, I don't think Heysel came up as an issue over the transfer at all.
  14. They'll be expecting to go back up.
  15. That's bollox actually. They've never handed out bans for things that have happened in domestic games have they?
