Van Dijk: I trust the club to sign the players we need

Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk has no doubt that Liverpool will look to do more business in the remaining weeks of the transfer window and add more quality to the squad.

 

It has been a summer of transformation more in the sense of the players that have left the club than any incoming talent.

 

The club has done very well to bring in Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from Red Bull Salzburg but they still  have holes to fill most notably in the middle of the park in the holding midfield role.

 

Since the signing of the Hungarian in early July,  there has been repeated links about further incomings most notably Romeo Lavia from Southhampton and in a surprise development, Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

 

The fact that concrete bids have been made for both midfielders puts to bed any talk that there are limited funds in the coffers.

 

However, unless there is a complete change in mindset of the individual, Caicedo seems hellbent on signing with Chelsea, while the dithering and lowballing of Southampton is looking likely to cost the Reds with Lavia looking increasingly likely to join him in West London.

 

In the day and age of ‘in the know’ Twitter hacks and professional journalists posting rapid updates on Social Media, the emotions of your everyday fan goes up and down like a rollercoaster.

 

That then leads to pent up frustration spilling out onto fan forum which can be cathartic for some individuals.

 

Being on the other side of the fence as a player, Van Dijk takes note of all the endless speculation of the summer transfer window, but as someone who has knowledge from the inner sanctum, says that he has full faith that the right outcome will be reached as the Mirror reported.

 

 

“We all want quality signings and that’s what we’ve done so far. So we trust the club. I definitely trust the club. They did quite good business over the last years, so why not now as well?

 

“If you follow social media, you get dizzy with all the names. In my opinion, it’s speculation and they try to guess names to put fuel on the fire and stuff and that’s how the internet works.

 

Speaking from personal experience, the Dutchman says it takes much more than a speculative link to get a big deal over the line.

 

“You’ll see us linked with almost every midfielder in the world, so just wait and see. We have professionals working on it and that’s the most important thing.

 

“Like I said before, we trust the club, we play for the club, and we trust the club to do the right thing. We’ll see what happens."

I don't even think he's drank the Kool Aid.  It's a really bland statement, not exactly a ringing endorsement. If he's asked the question he'll answer in the manner any employee would.

And the version I read last night he said "we trust the owners" 3 times, like he was told to make sure he says that.
