The only other real high ceiling solution is you tell Trent "here you go buddy, you can fulfill your dream of playing in midfield now, youre the 6", you hope he isnt complete turd there and you buy the best right back you can find. Alternatively, you make Mac the 6 and you buy the best 8 you can find.

We might just be dumb enough to do that.

Carragher just said something must be going on behind the scenes "why have liverpool gone through 3 DOF in 12 months? Something has happened and until that's fixed it will continue like this".

Same point I made before if and I stress IF its Klopp and Lynders were do we go from here?

But aside from the players, the formation will not work with whoever you care to mention.

His 31222 or whatever else you want to capture it as, is going to go down as a legendary fail.

We need to go back to 433, and we need to surprise everyone by announcing a fucking top RB.

Get Trent playing the 6, quarter-backing.

Pick a number 9, stick with him.

Trent as a 6 might be the worst idea I've ever heard. Not a fan of him as an RB either tbh. RCM might work.

Disagree, respectfully.

It changes the dynamic, he's a danger to teams when he drops deep and collects the ball.  Opposition will recognise that and try to press him, in doing so they'll expose themselves positionally if he moves the ball on quickly.

He's also an athlete, he can cover a lot of ground, he's 6ft, he can compete.

He's poor at defensive positioning, marking and close control/technique can be better. Also he's prone to simple passing errors at times. Not good as a 6.

Serious question here, how is anyone supposed to compete with clubs offering 8-9 years contracts with mad wages?

Its fucking suicidal to have that many players on your books on that money with contracts that long.

If they turn out to be shite, why would they leave if you try to shift then and they are getting offered lower wages. They could end up with a load of Winston Bogardes on the books and is surely unsustainable.

Don't bother, identify other targets.

Caceido was nailed on for Chelsea, we knew it, so just don't get involved in that situation.

I think Trent could potentially work as a 6, providing we brought in a decent RB. With a solid RB there'd be less pressure for the RCM to cover that space, CBs closer, etc. We'd be more compact, making the role less taxing.

What we're doing right now though just creates holes, and necessitates any 6 needs to be top drawer.

He isn't capable of/doesn't want to do the dirty work.  He'd be a total luxury player there.

Trent is a great guy but he's always struggling defensively, whatever Klopp says. I want a RB (or 6 for that matter) that can defend. Simple as that. At times it's like we play with 3 at the back. It's a big big problem. Vs Chelsea I saw him WALKING back at times, while everyone else was running. Very very poor. He's a good passer of the ball but that's not enough in today's football, not even close.

Eh, what we are doing now does create space in other areas but it makes the job of the 6 easier.

That doesn't mean the side is tighter defensively because of it.

Who said the side is tighter defensively for it?

As for the job of a 6 being easier in this current set-up, nah. Most 6s find it easier putting out fires when they're effectively working in a channel between two CBs to between two CMs, like Fabinho did at his best.
